Poll question: What should be done in this situation?
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 12:26 PM by Quixote1818
Department of Homeland Security officials said Alpizar ignored two air marshals' orders to get down on the ground and he appeared to be reaching into his bag when one of the marshals fired.

Let me add that the lady screaming he was off his meds was speaking in Spanish.

"Argote said Alpizar got up from his seat and ran toward the plane's door, with his wife yelling in Spanish."

I doubt the marshals knew what she was saying.

2. Excuse me but this seems
that this is just BS to cover up a murder by cop. Remember since 9/11 they scan and search all carry on before anyone enters the plane. Anyone who's been on a plane these last few years know that even shoes are searched, so how could anyone have anything like a bomb in their carry on bags? If anyone buys this story, they need to lay off the kool aid now.

3. All kind of things make it through the scanners
Are you going to trust a person sitting in front of a scanner for eight hours that may be getting tired? What if the guy had connections in the Airport and was given the bomb after getting through the scanners?

Air Marshall's have to assume the guy has some kind of weapon in the bag he is reaching for.

5. Sorry but I'm not buying into
the reporkicans lie machine. Exactly this kind of thing is meant to get americas eyes off GW and the reporkicans under investigation and on to outrage. If things are still that bad in the airline security system then the airlines should be shut down until they deal with the security issues. Remember right now america has been under propaganda attacks from the oval office, the attack on chirstmas is another example. So is this. We are wasting time dealing with these things instead of keeping our eyes on the reporkicans.

6. Not only should there be reliance on the screening process ...
... they had his wife to rely on. She was clearly INFORMING them of his mental/emotional disorder, and able to further dispel any notion of there being a bomb.

If the same agencies responsible for assuring security show no reliance on that security themselves, then why the fuck should the public put up with any of it?? Just what the fuck are we surrendering our civil rights and our money for?

10. Wanna see what's missed by security screenings??? Look here:
"Recent tests of airport security to determine whether screeners would discover concealed guns, knives, and simulated bombs had failure rates comparable to tests done in the 1980s and 1990s, says Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), who was briefed in April on the classified results. The earlier tests showed that screeners missed roughly 20 percent of the prohibited items at checkpoints and that screeners using X-ray machines to examine luggage missed 2 of every 3 bags carrying simulated explosives."

4. she was bilingual, speaking in both languages...
Unless all passengers Mike Deshears, Mary Gardner and Ellen Sutliff are all fluently bilingual as well.

From CNN:

Another passenger, Mary Gardner of Orlando, said she also overheard Alpizar's wife. "I heard her say, 'He's bipolar. He doesn't have his medicine,'" Gardner recalled.

Ellen Sutliff, who said she sat near Alpizar, described him as agitated, even before he boarded the plane. His wife kept coaxing him, "We just have to get through customs. Please, please help me get through this," according to Sutliff.

"We're going to be home soon, and everything will be all right," Sutliff quoted the wife as saying.

From the AOL article:

No bomb was found, and federal officials later concluded there was no link to terrorism. Witnesses said his wife, Anne, frantically tried to explain he was bipolar, a mental illness also known as manic-depression, and was off his medication.

"She said it was her fault that he was bipolar," said Mike Deshears, a Flight 924 passenger. "He was sick and she had convinced him to get on the plane."

7. Shoot him in the leg.
I have heard all of the talk that air marshalls are trained to "shoot to kill", but I don't buy it. Had they shot him in the leg, if he was a bomb toting terrorist, they could have gotten information from him.

12. The rule is "Shoot to stop the threat".
Center mass is the most certain target to assure this.
