ACLU:Protesters placed in FBI terrorism files ("domestic terrorism")

The names and license plate numbers of about 30 people who protested three years ago in Colorado Springs were put into FBI domestic-terrorism files, the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Colorado says.

The Denver-based ACLU obtained federal documents on a 2002 Colorado Springs protest and a 2003 anti-war rally under the Freedom of Information Act.

The FBI documents indicated agents planned surveillance in Denver where protesters gathered to carpool to Colorado Springs for the 2003 anti-war protest at Palmer Park, the ACLU said. FBI agents also collected information on three Web sites that listed details of the planned protest, the ACLU said. The file was classified as domestic terrorism and acts of terrorism, Silverstein said.

The 2003 rally was part of an International Day of Peace to oppose possible U.S. military action against Iraq. Protesters gathered at Palmer Park and outside Peterson Air Force Base. Nearly three dozen protesters at both locations were arrested for failing to disperse.

7. FBI database often errs on aliens' status (9,000 times from 2002 to 2004)
Real reliable files these folks keep...NOT!!

Wonder if anyone has ever followed up on their "errors" that led to all these people being detained??

http://washingtontimes.com/metro/20051208-100743-9424r.htm

The report, released through the Migration Policy Institute, states that police officers nationwide who use the crime database to check the names of people they stop or detain received wrong information on immigration status nearly 9,000 times from 2002 to 2004.

About 44 percent of the mistakes likely lead to the wrongful detentions of thousands of immigrants and citizens, said Michael Wishnie, a fellow at the institute, a nonpartisan think tank that analyzes immigration. He also is one of the authors of the study, all of whom are from the New York University School of Law.

Officers in the District received erroneous information about immigration status from the FBI database about 78 percent of the time.

Maryland officers received incorrect information 63 percent of the time, and Virginia officers received it 61 percent, about 20 percentage points above the national average.

3. Chilling.
Even though you knew that's how it was going down.
Still, chilling to learn they are actually doing it.
