Do Junior and Laura still have their hurricane hammers?
Remember the big splash Junior and Laura made pretending they had empathy for the victims of Hurricane Katrina? It was a big NBC event. Carpenter`s apron, hammer, Katie Couric, nails, lumber, all the props (except for Katie) one would need to keep up with Jimmy Carter on any given day. Someone should tell the First Carpenter and his Assistant that they put their hammers down a bit prematurely.

NBC News did a segment tonight on some Hurricane Katrina survivors, still sitting on the curb, still waiting for the FEMA truck. One woman, 80-something, sleeps in the back seat of her car. Others, dressed in winter coats, sleep in their tents. Ever try to hang a Christmas wreath on a tent?

I realize the nation is preoccupied with the "War on Christmas"...which I hope turns out better than the War on Drugs or the War on Poverty, or even the war in Iraq... but isn`t it about time for the Compassionate Conservatives to strut their stuff? I mean, with 90+ holiday parties planned at the White House, couldn`t someone grab a few doggie bags and head on down to Katrina country?

1. Does anyone know
whether or not there is electricity and/or heaters in those tents? How do the folks stay warm?

2. But you see...
that would require them to actually care.

5. That really is obscene . . .
. . . must make Carter's blood boil to see such blatant hypocrisy from "leaders".

6. Welcome to DU, CrazyOrangeCat! And yes,
this is truly sad and maddening. Any one of us could be in these victims' shoes.

7. This is so heartbreaking and unacceptable
The stark contrast you draw between the haves and have nots is striking. Very well-chosen images put it all in perspective.
