War on Christmas - Is 'christian' Fascism coming to town?
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 08:42 PM by ck4829
I have been thinking it over, maybe this 'War on Christmas' isn't some attempt to push up the ratings of Fox News or something.

It may be that there is some sort of malicious intent on the part of the RW to push Fascism.

There is much more than Fox News in all of this people. We've got Jerry Falwell, the AFA, the Catholic League, WorldNutDaily, etc. all pushing the "War on Christmas" line.

If you remember the Abramoff memos (In which Scanlon referred to Conservative Christians as being "Wackos"), we see that they are all connected, it's almost like it's a Vast Conspiracy of RW'ers or something.

But, by pushing Inclusivism out and and Exclusivism in (With all of this "It's 'MERRY CHRISTMAS', not 'HAPPY HOLIDAYS' you Anti-Christian Commie!'" stuff), are we seeing the birth of a Fascist Theocracy?

1. It's just a distraction
Trying to push more fear down our throats, but their effect is wearing thin.

7. Yes, it is to confuse priorities

The country is going broke while solidifying its status of a rogue nation. The election system was faulty before it was sabatoged. Health care and the standard of living are going down the toilet too and what we get is trash talking about Christmas.

Can't somebody sqeeze in a "This is no way to run a country."?

2. It's typical sociopathic pushing of territory
They excel in crossing boundaries. They're just trying to bully everyone. With a good,
liberal government it keeps them under control but still allowed their own practice. Now
they're evincing all the signs of network sociopathy.

3. A rather good analysis and rebuttal comes from Ellen Goodman
In short, the sacred and co-opted evergreens of the Druids have become the symbols of the purist Christmas Christians. Somebody hug a tree for me, here we go again.

-snip-

The last real war against Christmas was, in fact, a religious war. It was waged in my hometown by Puritans who banned mince pies and plum puddings and declared that celebrating Christmas was a criminal offense. In 1711, Cotton Mather gave his famous lecture against "mad mirth," "long-eating," hard-drinking and reveling "fit for not but a Saturn or Bacchus."

As for American history, let us remember that Congress convened on the first Christmas of the new Republic, Dec. 25, 1789. Christmas wasn't a federal holiday until 1870.

I admit to being bemused with today's one-size-fits-all "holiday" season. How did the celebration of the birth of Christ elevate Hanukkah from minor- to major-league status?

6. Most Jews I know
are quick to remind me that Hannukah is a minor holiday. Not according to the kids, however!

4. I assumed it was a standard Repub raid on "wacko" checkbooks
But it sure took on an ugliness and absurdity beyond the usual RW fund-raising.

5. But is anyone except the stupid really buying it?

I mean, if it has to be reviewed by FAUX every day, it obviously needs to be explained to those treading water in the shallow end of the gene pool.

Everyone I've talked to about it rolls their eyes, even self-proclaimed DUH-bya supporters. They see it as a ridiculous waste of time.

Why have we heard nothing from Kwanza and Hanuka celebrants about discrimination? Or has there been talk?

8. I've had this same thought recently. My first reaction was, "what a
ridiculous, bogus issue to push, it has no credibility".

My wife turned on FOX yesterday because she wanted to see O'Reilly's interview of Howard Stern. I had to sit through part of the O'Reilly show before the interview.

It's all just straight up hate mongering now. Dude is trying to become a new McCarthy. Just saying who's unAmerican, who to hate, who is the "enemy" (on this show it was the ACLU).

I started to look at the Xmas war thing as possibly being some transition period towards whipping up hate and actual violence against people. Chilling.
