Substitute Teacher Charged With Sniffing Cocaine In Class

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A substitute teacher was arrested Thursday after students reported watching him use what appeared to be cocaine during a seventh-grade science class, authorities said.


Terry John Kappila, 45, of Jacksonville, was charged with felony cocaine possession. He was being held at Duval County jail.

Twenty-two students allegedly saw Kappila sniffing a white powder at a computer desk during class, police told The Florida Times-Union for its Friday editions. Two of the students left the classroom to report the alleged drug use, Lake Shore Middle School Principal Iranetta Wright said.

"They said, 'Miss Wright, he is doing something wrong in there,"' Wright told the newspaper. "The students were very alarmed."

In Florida, drug charges are compounded when they are on or near school property. What a dumbass. If convicted, he's going away for a long time. He could've just gone to the bathroom or something if he was needing it that bad, not that it's an acceptable behavior for a substitute teacher.

My only apprehension is that I don't trust the Jacksonville PD. They're one of the most corrupt departments in the U.S. If it weren't for the student testimony...

The drug laws you mentioned are federal laws.

And man, do I ever feel sorry for those kids. What a horrible thing for them to have to witness.

It's like an appetizer.

First of all, sniffing is what you do to flowers or that smell the cat left in your bedroom. Snorting is what you do to cocaine. Way to look like wide-eyed suburbanite squares, Local 6.

Maybe... holy shit! ... ten years ago? A sub drank a whole sixpack of malt liquor during a middle school class and proceeded to puke on the front row of students. (This was a women iirc).

My guess is he was desperately trying to treat his hungover ass and make it through the day.

That was a famous story in my high school (which is located in Austin, TX). I didn't know that she actually barfed on some kids, though.
