Wife of Robbery Victim Calls for Support of Stanley Tookie Williams Peace Initiatives

Linda Owens, the widow of Albert Owens, who was slain during a convenience store robbery, issued a statement today in support of Stanley Tookie Williams’ efforts to bring an end to gang violence and his call for peace between gangs.

In a statement sent to attorneys for Williams for public release, Ms. Owens said: "I, Linda Owens want to build upon Mr. Williams' peace initiative. I invite Mr. Williams to join me in sending a message to all communities that we should all unite in peace. This position of peace would honor my husband's memory and Mr. Williams work."

<snip>

Bruce S, Gordon, NAACP President and CEO, said, “Linda Owens’ statement “ is a message of hope. I praise and thank Mrs. Owens for sharing her thoughts. We all can learn from her example."

75. He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone
SAVE STANLEY "TOOKIE" WILLIAMS

A MESSAGE FROM STEWART A. ALEXANDER

It is very well known that Stanley “Tookie” Williams was the co-founder of the infamous Crips. However our local, state and federal governments made gang involvement profitable for gang members and corporate America. This lucrative market has thrived in the African American community.

Our officials at all levels of government turned and looked the other way and allowed drugs to proliferate on the streets of California and America and turned our families, homes and neighborhoods into kennels of death. The lives of African Americans are no more than a profitable venture for corporate America, not for good but for evil.

The plan is broad in scope: build more prisons, create the environment for crime, then create institutions to houses our victims. We will even show how committed we are to punishing the criminal; we will put them to death. But in reality the system itself has become the criminal.

The three strikes law is a life sentence. Rehabilitation is just a front. Plea bargaining is an endless process. False arrest and false imprisonment will create big business. The courts are now in grid lock, the jails and prisons are over crowded, and the only thing simple to understand about the system is that it’s black, brown and white, mostly black.

In the 80’s, 90’s and today drugs have paid for food, gas, electric, transportation, housing and entertainment in the African American communities. What is going on in America?
It seems to me that our system is part of a world class (as in social class) money laundering criminal scheme involving trillions of dollars and engaging in criminal activities for the benefit of corporate America.

The criminal justice system in America has created a partnership with the drug lords and corporate America and is in no position to demand that any individual pay the ultimate price. As Jesus Christ said , “He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone”.

Tookie Williams is an American son. America created Tookie Williams. Now his most outstanding crime is that he’s turning the youth of America away from crime and gangs. For that alone there is a rush to put him to death.

Stanley Tookie Williams is only the byproduct of a system that is not qualified to take his life or any life. Today we need social and judicial reform in California and America and we need to take crime out of our criminal justice system and corporate America.

Stewart A. Alexander
2006 Candidate
California Lieutenant Governor

69. Grace is only shown to those who are repentant.
Since Tookie refuses to be disloyal to the Crips, then he is not repentant. When he tells police what he knows about crimes committed by Crips then he will be beginning to show remorse.

Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 11:29 PM by Fescue4u
Wouldnt you be pressing for release from prison after he receives clemency?

In fact, if he is innocent, then the only moral thing to do is to release him and/or fight for his release.

Of course I don't' believe for a second that he is innocent. But the most vocal of
Tookies followers certainly do.

Make no mistake. If Tookie receives clemency, his loyalist will be fighting to free
their hero.

I've read your tookie spam (as we all have). Its quite clear that you feel your hero has been wrongly convicted.

If you truly feel this way, you should be fighting to free him or get a new trial.

Unless of course you are just using him for other purposes.

would it take that in someone for you to fight for Justice for them?

Justice. that's my hero. my devotion. in every aspect of life and the world.

give a damn, and you'll see me fighting for it in countless arenas.

"given the chance, Mr Williams will have the right to fight to prove his innocence. everyone does.""

Strange world you live in.

You must prove your innocence like everyone does

If you are innocent of a crime, then you deserve life in prison.

You can be redeemed without admitting guilt.

(Did I miss any other spin? Proably)

And btw, I do care about this case. Before you spammed the board about your hero, I never heard if this man. I also have 3 children who have never heard of this man. They are of appropriate age to read his books (if they were available, it seems those 400 books havent made it out here yet)

Thanks to your links and information, you have convinced me that he is guilty beyond the pale and unredeemed to humanity.

The only question left is hown should he be punished. In this case the voters of California have made it quite clear that they support the DP in cases like this. I will not second guess Democracy.

It would be immoral and wrong for this vicious killer to escape justice.

49. I do think that's a mistake
some people are making. That by asking for Clemency, we are asking for his freedom.

I do believe that TW is guilty, but I am anti-DP. It's a terrible thing for our country to still practice when we have the means to avoid this type of sentence yet still punish a convicted felon.

18. Those that support the death penalty should respect those of us that don't
If you think that the state has a GAWD-given right to execute its citizens, and its corollary of conscripting its citizens, then it is impolite for you to condemn those that oppose the death penalty on ethical and moral grounds.

For my part, I only support the death penalty in cases of state-sponsored terrorism, crimes against peace, crimes against humanity, genocide, etc.

24. I can respect your, but not some of the liars that have posted for Tookie.
In the week or two that these "Save Tookie" threads have been running, certain Tookie supporters have repeated posted multiple lies and distortions and misrepresentations in their support of Tookie. When it has been pointed out that an item they have posted is not true, they have ignored the correction and continued, day after day, to post the same lies.

I can respect a principled DP opponent, even as I disagree with them, if they are truthful in the things they say to support their arguement. I don't respect liars. I am NOT calling you a liar, but certain other posters.

25. No can do -- Tookie is still a Crip helping criminals

Apparently when asked to name names about CRIP criminal activity he has refused at every turn. Some people might think this is out of fear, but it looks like its out of pride and glory for his organization.

From http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/11/19/gang.execution.ap/ind... :
In his book, Williams addressed nearly all of Crittendon's accusations <of continued gang loyalty and activity>, saying that informing on gang members would "rip my dignity out of my chest," that he gets along with everyone in the yard, and that his son is trying to change his ways.

Still a loyal Crip. Sorry, no clemency for you tookie.

28. "Prominent death penalty activist urges clemency for Williams"
http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=4230607

SAN FRANCISCO A prominent death penalty activist today urged Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to grant clemency to former gang member Stanley "Tookie" Williams.

Sister Helen Prejean says there's strong evidence that Williams has changed his life for the better since entering prison. She says saving his life would send a message of forgiveness and redemption.

Prejean says California's leaders would be acting "out of the same moral framework as a gang" if they allow the execution to proceed.

Prejean is the author of "Dead Man Walking." She's in town to receive an award from the A-C-L-U.

44. Urge Tookie to take responsibility for his crimes.
Clemency won't come without that.

45. 1st step in redemption is taking responsibility
Tookie has had 25 years to take that first step towards redemption.

Its ashame for him, his victims, and his loyal following that he is unrepentent.

But he made his choices, and on Tuesday your hero will reconcile with his evil deeds.

No Word From Governor...

Wayne Owens, 55, the older brother of Albert Owens, one of the men Mr. Williams was convicted of killing during a robbery of a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles, said in a telephone interview from his home in Olathe, Kan., that his family was doing the best they could to deal privately with their emotions amid the intense news coverage of the case.

Mr. Owens, a novelist and performer, said he was opposed to the death penalty but that he would support it in this case unless he could be assured that Mr. Williams would never be freed.

72. Sorry, No Clemency for Tookie
I am not generally in favor of the death penalty, however, this case is very clear cut. Tookie committed the crime and was convicted. Tookie has done some admirable work in the area of Children's literature, urging them to stay out of gangs. But the fact still remains that he has not owned up to the murders or shown any remorse for what happened. He only says he is sorry to be a co-founder of a street gang. That's a far cry from taking responsibility.

This case will do nothing more than further divide our already divided country, but this time it will divide us along lines of race. Is this the legacy that Tookie & his supporters want?

84. Did it ever enter your mind that maybe he hasn't "owned up"
because he is innocent? have you any idea how many innocent people are in prison? Those who aren't killed can get out, maybe, if they are very lucky and have a dogged lawyer to pursue their cases. Those who are killed cannot.

What has happened to this country?:-(

74. Sorry. I have better battles to fight.
It's hard for me to feel sympathy for a man that started one of the nation's most violent street gangs.

Tookie is probably on par with the KKK in regards to the amount of harm done to the black community.

Thats really nice that he saw the error of his ways, but I'll spend none of my time fighting for him.
