Mostly off DU this week - the Dean comment on Iraq questions

I was not on DU much this week, as I was working on a project away from my normal work where I have ok internet access.

But, I just want to verify something here. Howard Dean said we can't win in Iraq, which is something I agree with 100%. However, he has been skewered by the media, Republicans and many Democrats for this comment. But, didn't George Bush say something similar last year - that we can't win? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

.. except that Dean recanted and said that we could win with the right strategy.

I totally disagree with that and find myself very disappointed with Dean.

This war cannot be won at all. Period.

Also, there's a way that Dean plays the political ambiguity game that really
bothers me. He and other pols make a spurious distinction between the War on
Iraq and the War on Terror.

Boys... there is no such thing as a War on Terror. You can't make war on an
abstract noun.. only on people and nations.
