Bush's popularity among Iowans sinks to all-time low
Meant to post this yesterday when I picked up the paper and this was the first headline I saw. (What a lovely thing!)

--------

http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051209/NEWS09/512090369/1056

President Bush's popularity in Iowa has sunk to the lowest level of his presidency, with 58 percent of adults frowning on his job performance.

A new Des Moines Register poll shows that disapproval of the Republican incumbent runs a gamut of issues — from his handling of the federal budget and the economy to the situation in Iraq and the federal government's hurricane response.

...

The proportion of Iowans who applaud Bush's overall job performance has skidded from a peak of 84 percent in the fall of 2001, when a nation traumatized by terrorist attacks rallied around the president, to 38 percent in the latest Iowa Poll, taken Nov. 28 to Dec. 1.

...

In the poll, 81 percent of Republicans and 7 percent of Democrats approve of Bush's overall job performance. Support from Republicans sags, however, in two areas. Slightly fewer than one-half applaud the president's handling of the federal budget and his effort to revamp Social Security.

-----

Can you believe that 81% of Iowan Republicans still toss their hat into the ring with this failure in terms of overall job performance? They must have no shame.

1. I don't think that 81% is real
"Can you believe that 81% of Iowan Republicans still toss their hat into the ring with this failure in terms of overall job performance?"

Personally, I think it's all about pride. People are too proud to admit they made a horrible choice that has affected (negatively) our entire way of life and our status as a nation.

2. Eh, I still see enough Bush/Cheney and W '04 stickers around here
to believe that the 81% Republican approval may be accurate...I guess it's just a function of pride and an unwillingness to admit mistakes. Must be something in the Republican DNA!

3. Let us hope that 'love' extends to one of his water carriers -
Jim Nussle in his campaign to use the governorship of Iowa as a stepping stone to his own presidency.
Repeat over and over "Nussle robs from the poor and gives to the rich"

5. 81% say they still back him...
maybe but the social security, drug plan, fuel costs and farm programs are what the people in the corn and bean fields are worried about. if this doesn`t improve and the democrats come up with a non bullshit progam then there is a chance. the reason that big ed is popular out here in the fields is that he understands the rural folks.it would be wise for the people in washington to wake up because not everyone lives in an urban area where people have no idea where milk comes from.....
