Quandry! Christmas or Holiday cards
This whole Christmas/Holiday controversy is so annoyingly divisive. I have many friends who are Jewish, Christian and also many who are neither. I have chosen to send Happy Holiday cards out of courtesy to my many friends who are not Christian. Now, I have to stop and think whether my Christian friends and family will be offended this year if I send the generic card. This is just ridiculous. Sending Happy Holiday cards is a loving gesture, part of being inclusive and tolerant of others' religions. It has nothing to do with one's own religious beliefs. As a matter of fact, the Christian thing to do is to treat others as you would have them treat you. If I were totally non-Christian (I'm actually Unitarian), I would want people to send me Happy Holiday cards. So by sending those cards, I am doing the Christian thing. Has anyone explained this to the dolts who want to divide families and the country with this controversy this year?

I repeat: Sending Happy Holidays cards to non-Christians is the Christian thing to do.

The alternative is to try to guess who is what religion and send them a suitable card or not send cards at all. The more I think about it, the more I think the last idea is the best solution. If I can't send a Happy Holiday card then maybe I shouldn't send cards at all because, no matter what greeting is on the card, it is going to offend one or another of my friends. I wonder if my Jewish friends would feel as confused about getting a Merry Christmas card as I would about getting a Happy Hanukkah card?

Send whatever you want. You're true friends will be happy to get them.

3. How about we start a tradition of saving trees and not sending
cards at all? How about we do nice things for each other instead? (No offense intended, I just think the whole card requirement is silly.)

4. If they take offense, it's their fault not yours
The word Holiday means "Holy Day."

To take offense at that is really grasping at straws.

It's not as though you're sending them a card that says Happy Hanukkah or Happy Solstice.

So, send them your Holiday cards, and if anyone makes a stink about it, don't send them a card next year.

5. I would appreciate a Happy Hanukkah card from a Jewish friend
I don't have to be of a particular religious persuasion to enjoy and appreciate a kind thoughtful gesture.

6. As a business owner I send holiday greeting from my business
As an individual I really don't give it much thought. Either way it is so commercialized it has lost it's true meaning.

8. my advice
send what you are comfortable with.

Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzza is not found in a card. It's not a tree, or ornaments. It's not tinsel, colored lights and pretty wrapping paper. It's not presents, fancy food or fine wine. It's not HO-HO-HO photos with santa, red hats, or big balloon displays on the lawn. It's not a date on a calendar, it's not a season.

Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzza is what is in your heart and how you express it throughout the year.

11. thank-you
we have friends that celebrate Christmas, and friends who celebrate Hannuka, others celebrate Kwanzza and still others who celebrate the winter soltice

we make our own cards, and have a simple message - Peace on earth, goodwill to all.

9. I am a Christian and everyone who sends me a Christmas card
is Christian. For many years I have made it a point to buy cards with a religious message, but this year I specifically got "Happy Holiday" cards. I want to see if they rattle anybody's cage.

12. I don't care WHAT kind of card it is
I just like the custom of "remembering" at this time of year. I only send to people I never see anymore and I love to get cards from them in return. I could give a rat's ass what type of card it is. Christmas cards are like bumper stickers, they say alot about who you are and what you believe, and that's ok by me, I'm just glad to be able to keep in touch.
