I always thought "Happy Holidays" referred to Xmas and New Year's.
When I was kid, it never dawned on me that it was an inclusive statement, meant to placate those of all faiths. I just assumed that people were wishing me both a Merry Christmas AND a Happy New Year combined...with a modicum of brevity.

So why can't conservative Chriatians who are all up in arms about the "War on Christmas" do the same thing? Why can't they choose to interpret "Happy Holidays" in the same way?

4. Because if you aren't with them you are against them?
Because everyone has to believe as they do, do as they do, closed minded people. Why are people threatened if someone believes differently than they?

10. I always thought that, too.
The truly mind-boggling thing, IMHO, about this 'War on Christmas' crapola is this:

When I was a kid, many churches, of all denominations, posted ads about 'Keeping Christ in Christmas' by donating to the poor, donating to food banks, donating toys to organizations that distributed them to poor kids, etc. THIS was always the way Christians were admonished to honour the birth of Jesus - through lending a helping hand to those less fortunate.

These days, pseudo-Christians are only interested in the word 'Christmas' being used by stores, in marketing campaigns, in TV and radio ads, and so on. I have heard not one word from any of these so-called 'Christian' groups about the meaning behind that word, or the acts of kindness and giving that should be prompted by it.

Threatening to boycott certain stores that don't use the word 'Christmas' only means, "I will spend my money elsewhere."
And spending money, to these kinds of people, is NOW what Christmas is all about.

Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus - I hope you appreciate what your so-called followers are doing to celebrate your birth.

11. Yes, it was and since New Year's was a day everyone
celebrated, it included Christmas or Chanukah (sp?)in the greeting.

12. The answer is in your subject line
"I always thought" The difference between you and them is that you think.

All it takes is a few people to tell the rest of them what they think and then there is no turning back.

The other issue right now is that they are trying to get the country to turn their attention away from how bad their president is fucking up the U.S.

13. Because their sense of exteem comes...
from righteousness. And in order to feel righteous, you have to make others wrong. Which means that you have to in a state of constant vigilance, on the look-out for ways to make war on others. It's a symptom of the true state of their moral degradation that they have to pick things like the fact that there are other holidays around the time of the winter solstice that they choose to turn into enemies, exclude and make war upon. It seems to be the nature of conservatives today to create enemies and make war in order to feel good about themselves in their righteousness.
