Just a few minutes back, as I was flipping through the channels, Faux was doing a story on this years Marijuana seizures and busts. The reporter, apparently trying to up the threat level of modern marijuana said, "This is not your parent's marijuana... er, for lack of a better word. Twenty-five years ago, the THC level of Marijuana was 5 percent. Today's Marijuana has 21 percent THC, the active ingredient that gives you the high."

So I'm imagining today's kids looking at their parents and saying, "Mommy, Daddy, was you pot really that lousy?"

I don't think today's home grown Sensi is any more potent than Thai Stick and some of the stuff from Africa and the Indian subcontinent. In Ethiopia, the good stuff was $10 a lb. it looked and smoked like good Jamaican.

Back in the day when I was young and reckless, we had pot from all over the world. Soldiers returning from Vietnam brought reefer back in their duffle bags. Thai stick was easily obtained. Hawaiian pot and Venezuelan pot were everywhere. It was relatively easy to send pot all around the world. (And it rarely cost more than $15 an ounce.)

The stuff they sell today from Mexico was considered low quality back then.

One hit pot was really one hit pot. And yes, it was lots more potent than today's BC bud.

The stuff grown domestically today IS better than the stuff grown domestically back then. But we didn't smoke home grown reefer. We didn't have to.

If they really want to win this 'war on drugs' they might start by not lying to these kids.

He was stationed at Shemya, Alaska in the late 60s, early 70s.

...about 1500 miles from Anchorage and the Mat Valley, but it's possible that the weed made it out there. I'd be interested to hear what he has to say about it. I think Alaska probably developed its own strains because it's just too much hassle to import it up here. Besides, it's been legal here since 1975.

I've never been to Burgundy or Bordeaux, but I can tell the difference in their wines. It's kind of the same thing here. Each region has characteristic properties. The trained palate can tell. So I'm pretty sure. At least in those days I was.

Is just not as good as the old Columbian. It works. And It measures out as high in THC. But the quality of the high just isn't there. That's my official opinion.:smoke:

It is not the part that gets you high that is harmful it is all the tars and carbon. The smoke part. The THC has never been found to be harmful. so if the pot is stronger then a person would naturally smoke less and therefore ingest less of the harmful properties. Way to undermine their own argument...

Although I'm also of the opinion that there are cannabinoids other than THC that have an effect on the character of the high, I'm not seeing the overall downside to the whole "increased potency" talking point.

As Gallagher once said, "Don't smoke pot when you're already high. It doesn't get you any higher, just lower on pot."

If the pot is stronger, people smoke less of it.

And why should they, (myself included) weed is not addictive at all and has only moderate effects on the body. On the other hand Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, ex-stacy, and meth, are very addictive and very popular. When I was young I didn't expect to know people with cocaine addictions, but as I got older I was given some real world education and learned that it can happen to anyone. It's time they leave innocent pot smokers alone and focus on the real drugs.

As far as the strength of weed now, all the good stuff is hydroponic, Northern Lights, Purple Haze, the high without the headache, Toke On!

When I 1st started buying pot for medicinal reasons, I thought, what a crock! $25 for a quarter ounce. But once I realized a toke or two from a pinch hitter was all I needed, it din't seem so high.

Never knew what to call it but it did have an effect. I.e.made one's brain devoted only to food and sex, not necessarily in that order. You know you still can't explain getting stoned to non-users and lush-heads. There used to be a chart of the brain showing what the normal brain liked to do and then what the stoned brain concentrated on. Certainly not on rational analyis of sociopolitical paradigms.

You'd take 2-3 bong hits, and think you needed some more, so you'd hit it a few more times and by then those first hits had "creeped up" on you and you were stuck staring at the tv, or into space, or whatever. If you had any spittle left you'd drool, but usually your mouth was so dry, and you just couldn't move. If you lit up a cigarette, you'd forget to smoke it.
If you were a copenhagen or skoal dipper, forget it, you had no spittle.
You'd get a beer, but it was hard work to remember to drink, and a lot of work to go to the fridge to get it. Little Kings, or some other skunky beer, and creeper weed, and you just weren't going to do much for the next hour or two.

On edit, just flashing back to that made my mouth dry, and made me hungry as hell.

Good thing I don't do any of that stuff anymore, I'd never get anything done, seriously.

Two commercials, I've noticed, that are on TVEE a lot more frequently are Army recruitment and anti-drug ones. The anti-drug ones are priceless in that they preach to not be conformist and go along with peer pressure - which is exactly what the commercial is doing. So you either listen to your friends and peers or a faceless gummit voice. Conform or conform in larger numbers. The choice is yours. :eyes:

The newest commercial has a boy with his hand stuck in his mouth (smoked to much pot). The gummit should be FORCED to make a commercial of Goorge Boosh with his head stuck up his ass! That would be far more appropriate.

If the shit is stronger, does that mean that people are 4 times as high? No. It means they smoke 1/4 as much to get their buzz. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Tar and the other shit in the smoke is reduced as THC percentages increase.
