Evangelical schools are suing the University of California
Dec 10, 2005 10:28 am US/Pacific

Suit: Biased Religious Views In UC System

(AP) SACRAMENTO Evangelical schools are suing the University of California, alleging the prestigious system is biased against conservative Christian views.

The suit was prompted by UC's refusal to approve courses at the Calvary Chapel Christian School in Southern California taught from textbooks that challenge evolution.

The suit says the school's students have a difficult time getting into UC's 10 campuses because the university won't certify courses taught at their high school.

Calvary Chapel officials and their supporters say UC is trying to force them to ditch Scripture for secular teachings.

1. I hope that these get laughed out of court.
If they don't, we're in trouble.

12. Me too! No one is forcing them to apply to UC colleges. It'a free country

so they might want to look at other places that will count their courses.

2. Good for UC
Obviously an education at an evangelical high school is all about believing and little about learning. Please proceed with your lawsuit. UC is not trying to "force" them to do anything. I suggest they pack their bags and go to Bob Jones U so they can continue their "education."

Please go forward with the lawsuit.

5. I got my popcorn
 Reminds me of some film someone made called "Brainwashing 101." It's where this guy is accusing a school (forgot which one) and UT (Tn) of being liberal schools and descriminating against conservatives. :eyes: Of course they had no proof and didn't cite any newspapers or anything like that like Michael Moore does in his films. I remember reading though that they would go around the campuses and put swatskia signs on professor doors who knew they were leftist. These people are getting on my nerves thinking that every single school, store and person has to bow down to their needs only. I'm getting sick of it! I hope this law suit teaches them a lesson!

3. So they can get on the state board of ed
and change those curricular standards. The idiots don't realize the universities don't set those standards.

Didn't they learn anything from their partners in idiocy in Kansas?

Huh? Did I miss something?
When did the state of California get an official religion?

Do these jokers even read the First Amendment? "No establishment..." Oh.

That suit is not worth the paper it's filed on.

Oh well, at least I got a laugh this afternoon.

17. I'm tired of these people wanting everyone to
bow down to them. They're acting like spoiled brats who need a scowling from their mothers about sharing! Didn't they ever learn to share and treat people with respect?

6. umm these "people" could teach scripture AND secular teachings?
or would that be too easy a solution? they CHOOSE to teach religion.
they have access to the UC catalogs. maybe they do not read unless it
is a bible of some version or other.

7. Evolution is scientifically based (however imperfect); Christian views are
faith based (NOT demonstrably imperfect or perfect; true or false; faith belongs to the believers and non-believers).

There is science and there is faith; those who would contend that one belongs to the other, only undermine their own. The two don't mix.

8. Why are they so adamant to gain admission to a university system. . .
that from their own testimony evidently doesn't share their faith? Makes you wonder what's more important to them -- their faith, or the earning potential a UC degree may confer upon them.

9. As usual, fundies accuse others of what they are actually doing
UC isn't forcing anything on these evangelical schools.

They're just telling them that their science curriculum is sub par.

The fundies in turn are trying to force UC to accept their sub par science curriculum.

13. Time for FSM again
So, my correspondence courses on how the Flying Spaghetti Monster brought the world to life by touching everything with His Noodly Appendage should also be accepted as "science" courses by UC, no?

14. These people are devilishly clever.
they have created "minority-status" for themselves, all the while claiming to be a MAJORITY when it comes to conventional wisdom...They put forth their crackpot ideas, and when no one salutes their flag, they use ACLU tactics and fight in court.

It serves them, no matter which way the court rules.

If the court rules in their favor, they crow about "right winning over wrong"..if the court rules against them, they drape the minority shroud over themselves and wail about their ill-treatment, get invited on every "news show" in the land to talk about how those shifty trial lawyers and activist judges treated them so unfairly..

Grover Norquist & Karl Rove have set the beast loose, and it's an insatiable beast..

16. I hope UC attorneys counter-sue them into oblivion.
I doubt their Bob Jones University trained lawyers can handle REAL attorneys. We will do fine without the Calvary Chapel Christian School. :)
