22. I think his wife posts to DU
I want to express my sympathy to her and to the family.

Richard Pryor was a pioneer of comedy. He had a very clear social conscience and his political satire was pointed. He paved the way for a lot of artists today.

23. That is sad - I loved his comedy
He was hilarious. He went through some weird stuff in his life.

Richard Pryor quote
"I went to penitentiary one time, not me personally, but me and Gene went there for a movie. "Arizona State Penitentiary" population: 90 percent black people. But there are no black people in Arizona, they have to bus motherfuckers in! ""

39. He had MS (Multiple Sclerosis) & did a bit to help raise awareness. With
thanks and sorrow as a fellow MSer I wish him peace and bliss at last.

He's been living with MS for a very long time and it sounds like it sadly hit him rather hard. If anyone's interested I found this rather old article from eBony (1993) about his fight with it:
Richard Pryor's biggest fight - multiple sclerosis

44. That movie is a classic!
It got me through college. My favorite line from the movie is when Pryor playing the grandfather told Pryor the father to butt out because "its twinsk the Mexicans and the white folks." Wait hold up their is the time when Reverend Good Night got run over by the tram and that one guy I'll call him "Harold Washington my feet" said "My oh my, flatter than day old beer." LOL
