Anyone notice in Syriania the relationship between the fathers and sons
George Clooney, Matt Damon, the Emirs' sons, the laywers son, the poor Muslim familiy sons

None of the fathers were aware of what their sons actually did

The movie was so powerful on many levels

1. I am still processing
a lot of it. There was way too much information to let it go as you left the theater. My kind of movie!

I wondered why those scenes were put in there, it was obvious they had a purpose but had not gotten far enough in my thinking about it to figure it out. Especially about Holiday's father. Why was that in there? More to think about.

2. I understand, it was a complicated story

just as it really is

It still is hanging in with me also.

People like to paint things in black and white, and in my view it just doesn't cut it

5. it's too intelligent
for most of the mind-numbed folks in the USA. no happy endings.

this film is going to stay with me for quite awhile. it was beautifully directed, acted etc. just proves that mr. clooney is not just another pretty face.

i'm not sure if the relationships between the fathers and sons were meant as a focal point (although the jeffrey wright character inviting his father in was rather interesting).

4. It was wonderful.
I really liked it. Nothing is ever truly black and white, it is the grey areas that are often the most interesting and/or the most dangerous as in this case.

A really well done movie.

What did you think about the father/son story line? Was it to paint a portrait of how these certain people and their types become who and what they are?

I have to leave for a while so I will check this when I get back to see if you figured it out better than I have. Interesting sides to the story, family and children and relationships. Not well defined but certainly there for a reason.

6. i have a few questions....does anyone have any answers?
when the son drowns in the emirs pool, was it truly an accident...i remember the light at the bottom of the pool and the other children coercing him to jump.

also, why didn't george warn the "good emir" and didn't he get killed himself? why did matt damon change places with the emirs' wife and sons....did he know?

I'm very confused as to how much knowledge Damon had of the missle strike. Was his switch with the emir accidental or purposeful? And what was Clooney trying to do, save the Emir? And God, that explosion shocked the entire theater. It was just too sad.

8. Nice take on it! And along to the not-knowing, can I add
acquiescence to inevitability?

When the "guest workers" were playing cricket, and the son asks his father for money, and gives his father a farewell hug that the father senses is out of the ordinary but in the end, shrugs his shoulders and goes back to the cricket game.

9. The father emir's giving the country's leadership to the dumb son
reminded me of some other situation I've heard about, but I can't quite place it!!!
