White said the idea for the banner came at a staff meeting to plan services for Christmas Day, which falls on a Sunday this year. A staff member for the 23,000-member church mentioned that some local churches were considering closing, not having services on Christmas Day, because it is a holiday.

The discussion snowballed from there, White said. He researched the trend of using "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" and came to one conclusion: "There is an out-and-out attack on Christianity and some of our Christian values."

A link on the church's Web site, http://www.withoutwalls.org points to a boycott campaign promoted by the American Family Association against stores that use "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" to encompass all of the holidays of the season.

"Instead of inclusive, the retailers are being exclusive by not recognizing which holidays they're trying to get us to buy their products for," said Randy Sharp, director of special projects for the American Family Association, based in Tupelo, Miss.

But he doesn't agree with White's banner. "It's really inappropriate," Sharp said. "That certainly isn't indicative of the best Christian attitude on how to address the concerns."

I however, have found a personal solution. I often walk for excersize. I was looking at all the christmas/holiday -what the fuck ever- decorations (So many have pagen roots, tee hee Don't get me wrong I don't mind people celebrating their religion, to Christians, it's a huge sacred birthday party)

Anyway back to my solution. On it's own-- hand made was this very large Peace sign, decorated with christmas lights. Sticking up over the fence in someones yard. I seems to me that it's put up every year, but I really pain attention to it with all the "holiday" fuss this year. A lot of loving care was put into the making of that. It expresses not only my secualar point of view, but the view of many Christains I know as well.

Needless to say, I'm making me a big peace sign, decorated with holiday lights, and putting it in the best viewing area in my yard. I wasn't going to do any decoration.

Peace on earth is the best message I can send.

These guys are nothing but money changers in the temple. I so wish that we had a country where WE could have freedom from Religous persecution of that kind.

If instead of throwing up a bunch of hastily made "Merry Christmas" signs all over their stores they just left them as they are. When I was a kid, many churches, of all denominations, posted ads about 'Keeping Christ in Christmas' by asking congregants to donate to the poor, donate to food banks, donate toys to organizations that distributed them to poor kids, etc. THIS was always the way Christians were admonished to honour the birth of Jesus - through lending a helping hand to those less fortunate.

These days, pseudo-Christians are only interested in the word 'Christmas' being used by stores, in marketing campaigns, in TV and radio ads, and so on. I have heard not one word from any of these so-called 'Christian' groups about the meaning behind that word, or the acts of kindness and giving that should be prompted by it.

Threatening to boycott certain stores that don't use the word 'Christmas' only means, "I will spend my money elsewhere."
And spending money, to these kinds of people, is NOW what Christmas is all about.

Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus - I hope you appreciate what your so-called followers are doing to celebrate your birth.
