SHARON: Ready by the end of March for possible strikes on IRAN

Israel readies forces for strike on nuclear Iran
Uzi Mahnaimi, Tel Aviv, and Sarah Baxter, Washington

ISRAEL’S armed forces have been ordered by Ariel Sharon, the prime minister, to be ready by the end of March for possible strikes on secret uranium enrichment sites in Iran, military sources have revealed. The order came after Israeli intelligence warned the government that Iran was operating enrichment facilities, believed to be small and concealed in civilian locations.

Iran’s stand-off with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over nuclear inspections and aggressive rhetoric from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, who said last week that Israel should be moved to Europe, are causing mounting concern.

If a military operation is approved, Israel will use air and ground forces against several nuclear targets in the hope of stalling Tehran’s nuclear programme for years, according to Israeli military sources.

It is believed Israel would call on its top special forces brigade, Unit 262 — the equivalent of the SAS — and the F-15I strategic 69 Squadron, which can strike Iran and return to Israel without refuelling.

“If we opt for the military strike,” said a source, “it must be not less than 100% successful. It will resemble the destruction of the Egyptian air force in three hours in June 1967.”

1. Israel had more U.N, resolutions against it than did Iraq.
But we ignore their wrong doing 100%.

Of course. We MUST take sides in EVERY dispute in the world.

3. What if George and Ariel planned this together?
More of a reason to demand the troops come back from Iraq.

Wolfowitz, Perle, and the other Likud moles who have infiltrated the US Government.

7. Of COURSE they planned it together. It's just been delayed a bit.
Here are some earlier threads showing this clearly - the planned strike was named "Operation Daniel" (for being in the Lion's Den) very early, and Ariel Sharon visited Bush in Crawford to discuss it some months ago.

(much info in the replies)

And recently Netanyahu has been coyly and pointedly not denying that he would support a pre-emptive strike in Iran too:
http://www.boston.com/news/world/middleeast/articles/2005/12/05/netanyahu_backs_pre_emptive_strike_on_iran

Israel, of course, is widely assumed to have nuclear warheads but has never been required to own up to it - it's a "don't ask, don't tell" policy by the US.

Note that these supposed secret bomb-preparing sites are in civilian neighborhoods. Note also that the best US intellligence available says that this is all false, and that Iran will not be capable of building a bomb for many years:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4252778 (same as the 2nd link given in this post).

The Bushies, of course, deny this and say Iran is going to have bombs any day now. Like Sharon and Netanyahu.

Sound familiar? They have wanted "regime change" in Iran for a long time. Another pre-emptive war of choice unless we stop it.

5. Did he say March?
Isn't that when Iran plans to open its own oil bourse? The US economy would be doomed if that happened,. Then where would Israel gets its monthly billion supplement?

6. If you think about it.................
The American public would probably not support an American atack with Iraq going on, So the Bushies are probably supporting this with the CIA and our Inteligence resources. After all they did recently buy a bunch of American made planes.

8. BTW, this is not the first time that word has come that Israel is ready
to attack Iran:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article6518.htm

This is from summer 2004. The whole thing has been delayed, but they never stopped wanting it.

9. Curiously, so has the Iranian bourse been delayed...
... from June, 2005, to April, 2006....

Middle Eastern oil has driven foreign policy for so long in this country that it would be foolish to think that it's not involved in any attack on Iran, regardless of the source of the attack.

10. No way the Israelis would attack without explicit assurances of support
by the Bushies. Sharon traveled to Crawford TX some months ago for exactly that.

Gov't Officials Deny Plan to Strike Iran

Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom and sources in Sharon's office deny the Times report. "Israel is dealing with the Iranian issue only with diplomatic tools," Shalom said. Sharon staffers said the paper's report is totally untrue.

Just last week, Prime Minister Sharon said, "I think it's clear that we cannot allow a situation in which Iran becomes a nuclear power... This is an international problem, and not just ours."

14. Unfortunately, saber rattling politicians often believe themselves.
See Iraq for evidence of the results of hubris.

Let's hope this pissing contest between the idiots in Iran and Israel is only the usual bluster and jock strap waving that politicians use to keep the populace voting for them.
