Medford single mother called back to active duty in Iraq
snip>
The single mother from Medford has been unexpectedly pulled from the inactive Army reserve and ordered to report for active duty by Feb. 5....and is searching for someone to care for her 13-year-old son, Shane.....She expects to train for an 18-month tour of duty that could take her to Iraq or Afghanistan.
.....
U.S. Army officials said Arndt is not being treated unfairly.

"Single parents are treated no differently than any other soldier, and are expected to have a family care plan at all times," said Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Pamela Hart.
.....
Arndt, who never married, at first arranged to have Shane live with her sister. But those plans are in danger of falling through, she said, because of family problems. She said her son's emotional well-being worries her the most.

"He says, 'My father's not here, you're not here, why should I be here?'" Arndt said. "His life as he knows it is gone."

1. These are the stories young people being heavily recruited need to read
This is 100% legal. You can be called back to active duty service, sometimes years after your discharge.

Most young folks never know that.

5. Not after your discharge but after release from active duty
She is in the Reserves and has not been discharged. When you get released from active duty you are supposed to spend some time in ready reserves and then some time in inactive reserves but you don't actually receive a discharge until all time is spent. Once you are officially discharged you won't be recalled unless there is a draft.

2. oh goody-more lives destroyed for Bush's folly
You think Bush cares? You think any repuke cares? No way-they would say the woman was dumb enough to enlist in the army, and so should take the consequences (even though she's been discharged for years, and is being called back by the "back door draft").

3. I know a young man who got himself in a pre-fatherhood state,
then married, then in marital difficulties, all just after finding out his reserve unit was likely to be called up. Since he was activated, he has secured a divorce. Now he thinks he can get OUT due to 'hardship' as he was granted custody of the child he cannot manage to tend for 48 hours while home on leave, without begging for help.

The family is positive he will be allowed to take off his uniform and come home. :eyes: They just are not paying attention.

4. This so sucks!
Does the boy have any medical problems? Psych problem may be grounds for a waiver appeal.

6. Why?
This is sick!

It is so hard to fathom that after all the lies...the greed has been exposed...we are still sending America's finest to die in vain.
