New Orleans, From a Freeper's Perspective
So today on my blog, one of the issues I'm covering, is how New Orleans has been forgotten now, especially by the Bush Crime Team. They've lost interest in New Orleans.

So a freeper responds:

"...there are too many needs in this country and around the world to throw tons of taxpayer money at a city which never should have never been built."

I totally find that amazing. The Rethugs are saying that New Orleans should have never been built, so basically just leave the people of New Orleans on their own.

I responded that that was the difference between Republicans and Democrats/Progressives. Republicans are selfish bastards and it's all about "Me, Me,Me." As Progressives and/or Democrats, we believe that we do not live in this world alone, and we have an obligation to our fellow man.

1. One clarification I'd make
Republicans are actually about "me, me, me and everyone who looks and earns like me."

4. fuck that guy
Tell that to those of us who have a lifetime of memories built by that city. Tell him to wipe away Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, the French Quarter, the Super Bowl, the 25% of US shipping that goes through the Port of NO, the history of Jazz.

I'm sick of people telling me MY CITY should be left to die.

2. To remove New Orleans from the Gulf Coast
would leave a huge hole in the heart and the economy and even the soul of this country.

And we would deserve it if we let it happen.

7. Appeal to his selfishness and inform them that there HAS to be
a port there for this nation's economy, and it HAS to be where New Orleans is now.

Sadly, this is not a freeper sentiment that you posted. I saw similar posts from some DUers during the days after Katrina.

17. yes they're ALL stupid & never seen a map
someone should let them know abt that big river there, they may have heard of it, the mississippi

cripes, don't they realize the economic disaster that would happen to this country if we give up the northern gulf of mexico?

imagine no domestic oil production or maybe the freep in question would like to drill in his OWN backyard for a change

maybe he can house a refinery or chemical plant or two in HIS town

hmmm, don't think so

they are all thieves, there is no give & take, just take

23. I agree.
"they are all thieves, there is no give and take, just take." It would seem so. And they don't want to give up the refineries and oil of the northern gulf of mexico, they just don't want to pay for the rebuilding of NO. Paying for the rebuilding of Iraq OTOH seems just fine with them. Which boggles the mind when you think about it. They are getting nothing from their tax dollars going to Iraq and they don't really give a rat's ass about the Iraqis, just as they don't give a rat's ass about the displaced poor, elderly and blacks from NO. Yet they won't say a word about their tax dollars going to rebuild Iraq because that would be admitting that their Dear Leader fucked up. They'll instead bitch about rebuilding an American City, because they deem it unworthy by their moral standards or whatever reasons they use to justify their lack of compassion toward their fellow Americans. Disgusting.

14. They have to justify it somehow
Maybe somebody needs to point out that it isn't just New Orleans being abandoned, it's the whole of the Gulf Coast. Cities that aren't protected by a levy system. What about them? Even if the levy excuse were valid for New Orleans, how do these asshats explain the treatment of everybody else.

16. Considering NO is one of the oldest cities in the USA
this is a really dumb argument. Does he think the Continental Congress should have forbidden settlement in southern Louisiana?

Oh, but wait, NO wasn't even part of the US then. hmmm Maybe the French should have put up a big barrier around the French Quarter and haulted all future settlements. LOL

21. And the Continental Congress didn't exist in 1718.
When the Continental Congress *did* exist, Louisiana was Spanish territory.

20. If he wants to talk about "never should have been built"
He can talk about most of the freeperish Southwest, which has no water of its own. Or he can talk about St. Louis, New York, and Los Angeles, which are built on MAJOR fault lines IIRC. Or most of freeper exurban America, which is built so that noone can function without a car, wasting petrochemicals.

22. I would call him a traitor. . .
New Orleans was a city that was attacked by a hurricane...a force of nature. It is an American city and Americans have an obligation to take care of our OWN first.

Ship the Freep overseas, on his own, not one single MRE or bottle of water. We can save the money we are paying out for the stooge to have a highly-paid unproductive job to rebuild a house in New Orleans.

26. Well, he has a point - Louisiana IS a red state...
:hide:

Pretend I never said that, it's the worst joke ever. But here's something serious:

Building New Orleans there was never the problem. But if he has issues, maybe his name should be written down - so when it's his turn to be in need, we can remind him of what he said before he isn't helped.
