These executions are surely the most heinous murders of all....
If we measure the "degree" of murder by the amount of intent and pre-meditation, then the executions of criminals are certainly the worst of all murders.

I find it amazing that so many (ahem!) "progressives" on this board are cheering for this 9th century bloodlust for revenge!

Disgusting :puke:

2. Then try to change the law
but remember, there are Democrats who feel strongly about this issue who disagree with you while you're trying to change the law.

3. Even as there are dems that are supporting the chimp's crusades
It's still disgusting!

7. Are you equating opposition to the DP with supportingTookie?
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 08:24 PM by Webster Green
Kind of like saying anti-war folks are terrorist appeasers, no?

9. No, I'm not.
But there have been tons of pro-Tookie arguments, threads, and posts here.

Every time somebody attempts to justify clemency for Williams on the basis of redemption, they are pro-Tookie.

14. Bull feathers!
Being pro-tookie is wanting him released. No one is advocating that. What is the point in killing him after almost 25 years? Is he bragging about what he did? No. He has been working to keep people out of he gangs so they won't end up like him. He is not going anywhere. What is the point of killing him? Isn't life in a CA prison punishment enough?

17. Are you equating support for the DP with support of Bush?
It certainly sounds that way.

For the record, I am opposed to capital punishment, but I also know McCarthyism when I see it.

McCarthyism?

You've obviously lost your fucking mind.

23. So do you support others who kill innocents in Iraq or else where?
What's the difference?

4. Once again
Define "so many". Is it 2 people? 3,10, 100, 150? Considering the large amount of people here I would figure "so many" to be a few hundred. I have seen a small handful "cheering" and to me that doesn't represent the majority of DU.

I have seen more threads started about "so many" people than I have actually seen the "so many" people.

6. That's a good point...
I haven't really counted 'em up, but I saw a few threads where it seemed somewhat evenly divided.

I just don't see any point to executions. They don't really deter others from commiting the same crime. It seems the only reason for executions is revenge.

I thought we had dragged ourselves out of the dark ages centuries ago, but here we are again.

10. I am against the DP also
But I know that the issue is divided and not all Democrats are against the death penalty. DU is for Democrats and other progressives so I expect to see different views here.

I will agree that I have seen a lot of people here who support the death penalty but I have seen hardly anyone say "Whoo hoo!!! The son of a bitch is gonna fry fry fry!. Burn motherfucker cause I am going to be partying tonight!".

Maybe I am wrong in thinking that when people say "cheering the execution" or "celebrating the death of Tookie" I think that as a joyful expression about this and not people who support the death penalty. Supporting the death penally is not celebrating executions.

8. can there be anything more 'cruel and unusual' than making a person
sit in a cell for ten or twenty years wondering if tomorrow is the day?

There's no "wondering" involved.

12. Yeah...
... I'd much rather be marched into a back room, made to lie face down and have two shotgun shells pumped into me and hear laughter while I gurgle my last breaths than lie on a gurney and get an injection.

Yeah, that's way better.

25. Might be debatable. Seen pictures from Iraq
and to think that if some of us are right, the acts in Iraq were likely committed for greed.

I don't think you can rank murder. Murder is murder. I understand the argument that pro-life should mean pro-ALL-life. But I'm not sure you could put the killing of Tookie ahead of, say, the murder of an innocent child who has committed no crimes and therefore never needed to repent or rehabilitate.

Murder is murder, regardless.
