I wouldn't think so. I wish the murderer didn't murder in the first place, which is far closer to the core problem than murdering the murderer! (that little viewpoint seems to have been grossly neglected...)

There is nothing TO celebrate. And if some people do, well I pity you.

But DUers have been called all sorts of things over one issue. A divisive one. It's happened on both sides. Tempers flare. Egos flare. Misunderstandings arise. Vicious circle.

And most of it allowed to remain, even if DUers now call each other inhuman vermin, revenge-lusting non-liberals, celebrators, or - good god - racists. And ALL of those things have been said.

What the fuck is happening on DU for us to sink to this level?!

I think we all need to step back and think. We've all been behaving badly.

Tomorrow is the big day. Don't expect me to be here wasting bandwidth. It's gonna be level 3, easily. And you're going to need it all.

Have fun in the usual bickering, whether you're for or against it.

2. Too bad they can't lock down only the DP
related posts tomorrow. I certainly would like to be able to celebrate in the comraderie of DU without having to watch people I like infighting. I think it's called a triangulation of fire when people do that. The repubs love to see us bicker and fight. We should start a movement, however late it is in the grand scheme of things to head off these kinds of flame fests or make the flame warmongers go to PM's only. I wish I knew the answers. I don't.

I will probably try to drop by and visit DU tomorrow as I have precious little time to get to visit any more, but I won't go anywhere near GD or GD: P. I just hope the Lounge doesn't stoop to that level tomorrow.

Maybe just to keep some sense of comraderie, some of the ones like you and I could just have a no DP day and totally ignore the topic. It has really boiled over and burned now. Like a pot of soup, once it's burned, it isn't worth dipping up a cup full...

3. I think it's healthy.
Some issues merit heated debate. I don't know if this is one of them right now, but there's nothing wrong with what's been happening.

4. I'm glad I missed the "party"
People are actually celebrating??? Having watched the debate devolve into name-calling, I'm not surprised more of the same has happened, but I am saddened. Can't we have civil discourse even among ourselves? If not, this country is worse off than I thought.

For the first time I feel ashamed to be a DUer.

Yes, I've broken the rules at times. Yes, I've been guilty of sometimes engaging in personal attacks. But the scale of this meltdown has me truly upset. Usually when I've lost it, cooler heads have prevailed. Are there any cool heads left among us?

This has been a lesson for me. I've noted how I feel about freepers and fundies and wonder if this could be extended to those who usually agree with me on most issues. Will I start calling DUers names? Will they call me a freeper if I admit that I think abortion should have some restrictions?

Maybe it's time to take a step back and realize that everyone--including freepers and fundies--is a human being. Name-calling, proselytizing and posturing will not help us reach a consensus that benefits everyone. Yes, many of the "issues" are life and death issues. That's why we are so passionate. But in becoming vile are we slitting our own throats.

I have some serious thinking to do. Maybe it's time to stop reviling right-wingers and see how much common ground we share. Where on the spectrum of good and evil does a person become evil? And how much of the schism in our country is a result of bruised feelings and the inability to engage in civil discourse?

Yes, I have a lot of thinking to do.

5. well thats whats great about this place
we don't all think alike, we think for ourselves. we are not the free republic or any other shitty conservative blog. they think like a machine and act like one. We have divisions which is okay. Instead of being angry about this, thank God or whatever that we still have something like this because if the repukes had their way, we would not have aplace like DU for this sort of thing. WE still have a right to disagree.

11. How is a photograph of an illegal lynching by a mob...
an appropriate comparison?
I'm honestly not baiting you, but I am curious as to how one arrives at that conclusion.

12. Compared to the freepers I've had to listen to for over two weeks?
At work AND on the local radio station they play at work?

Listening to them getting their rocks off over the death of another human being?

It doesn't GET any more fucking appropriate.

And I can't tell you how sick I feel after seeing the same thing on DU.

7. I believe that Tookie is guilty, deserving of the Death Penality
And that the governor was correct in his decision.

But I still find the execution sad.

It sad that this man choose evil.

He is a charismatic, natural leader. He could have done so much good for humanity.

Instead, he is arrogant and unrepentent.

I find it sad when anyone chooses evil. Its brings us all down.

Agree with the decision? Yes.
Celebrate? Never.
