On the Death Penalty and one hundred years from now.
Right now, there are twelve states and the District of Columbia which do not have a death penalty.

I support the death penalty and my own state has it, albeit with a current moratorium.

In one hundred years, there will be no death penalty in any state in this country. I think you can take that to the bank.

Also, in one hundred years, there will not be the numbers of particularly heinous crimes that we see today, either.

Society evolves, and everything takes time.

1. Why do you believe that?
The DP has existed in one form or another since humans existed. So have heinous crimes.

I guess you have a lot more faith in the improvement of society than I do.

Neither of us will be here to see who's right on this one.

2. What would lead us to believe that we would have fewer heinous crimes?
I agree we won't have the death penalty. The evolving standards doctrine is too entrenched and will certainly lead to the overturning of the death penalty.

4. You're pro death penalty
Said, you'd gladly pull the trigger on Tookie but think the DP is a method of an unevolved, thus primitivish society?

6. If you want to know the truth, I don't even consider Homo Sapiens
and intelligent species.

At least not yet.

Its a vicious circle. So long as there are so many heinous crimes, the DP is necessary.

13. Also odd, and I'm sure totally coincidental.....
:sarcasm: that alot of the nations without the DP also have much tighter gun control laws...not that the two are related or anything;)

7. Thinking about your timeline......
It's going to be one hell of a ride getting through the next 100 years. :scared:

I think your right by the way.......Maybe there will be a gigantic Alcatraz Prison Island. Electronic video cops, taser neck collars and HBO present, "The Survivor Alcatraz".

12. The timeline.
200,000 years of homo sapiens walking the planet, they're still waging unnecessary wars where thousands of civilians get slaughtered yet humans will be evolved in l00 years to the point they wont committ heinous crimes? Highly doubt it.

14. I'm curious.
Why do you support the death penalty and yet believe that in a hundred years it will no longer exist?

Do you think that eliminating it will be wrong?

Are you aware that almost every other country, especially first world nations, don't have a death penalty?

Again, I ask you, why do you support it?

15. The DP does nothing against particularly heinous crimes
A person committing such an act does not expect to get caught; as a result the possible penalty is without relevance. That has been proven in many studies on the subject.

So, if you say "I want those people dead", then it is your opinion, but don't hide behind that "a wave of heinous crimes will follow" line.
