Tribute: Sister Helen Prejean
Thank you for all you do, Sister.

Her website:

http://www.deathpenaltydiscourse.org/prejean.htm

As some of you may know, I have lived and worked in New Orleans for many years and the Death Penalty Discourse Center was based there.

I have lost my home, my office, my neighbours and my community, and my city is in tatters, but I am safe and well, and so, too, are all the staff of the Discourse Center. My thoughts go out to my fellow New Orleanians and the folk from across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, especially those who suffered the loss of loved ones and the excruciating conditions in New Orleans in the days following Katrina. Many folk are still suffering in overcrowded shelters, and many more face a long, hard road as refugees in their own country.

At the Discourse Center, we are in the process of rebuilding our operations in Baton Rouge, with staff members located there as well as scattered across the country.

3. It was Sister Helen whose work convinced me how wrong the death penalty
truly is.

6. Me too -- "Dead Man Walking" made me read her book
And changed my way of thinking about State-mandated killing.

4. i think that not anyone of us who has not been to N.O. since Katrina can
even fathom the tragedy Katrina and the breaking of those levees wrought upon New Orleans, much less the destruction which still lingers. It rips my heart to read phrases like,

"Many folk are still suffering in overcrowded shelters, and many more face a long, hard road as refugees in their own country."

and it tears my heart that the bush boy gives shit about new orleans and its people and that people are so misinformed like the friend who stopped by the other day and in conversation about the bush administration mentioned that, "the people in New Orleans have it made, they are going to be living in castles....." where my friend got this misinformation i don't know... but i quickly pointed her to some facts which wiped away her misinformation...
