True or False? Convicted felons get NO social security!

Anybody know for sure?
On edit: A friend told me that many folks that got into drug trouble back in the '60's were going to be very disappointed when they apply for retirement benefits.
Can this be true or is it just an "urban myth"?

If you are convicted of a crime
Tell Social Security right away if you are convicted of a crime. Benefits generally are not paid for the months a person is confined for a crime, but any family members who are eligible for benefits based on that person’s work may continue to receive benefits.

Benefits usually are not paid to someone who commits a crime and is confined to an institution by court order and at public expense. This applies if the person has been found:

Not guilty by reason of insanity or similar factors (such as mental disease, mental defect or mental incompetence); or
Incompetent to stand trial.

If you have an outstanding warrant for your arrest
You must tell us if you have an outstanding arrest warrant for:

A crime that is a felony under the laws of the state in which you live; or
A crime punishable by death or imprisonment for more than one year in states that do not classify crimes as felonies.
You cannot receive disability benefits for any months in which there is an outstanding arrest warrant for a crime that is a felony (or a crime that is punishable by death or imprisonment for more than one year).

If in Prison or jail or "Other institution" no one gets Social Security unless going through a rehabilitation program (NOT Prison Rehabilitation but some sort of Rehab program to help some learn to work around his handicaps, a very limited exception).

As to ex-felons, the issue generally are they still insured by Social Security? To get Social Security you MUST have paid into the program 20 out of 40 Quarters (or one quarter for each year after you turn 21, but at least 6 quarters) AND paid into Social Security within the previous Five Years. Most felon right out of Jail DO NOT MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS.

Basically, you only get Social Security if you pay into the system. You do NOT pay into the system while you are in Prison. If you are out of Prison you can re-start paying into Social Security.

As to a blanket ban, why do you want a 65 year old person NOT get Social Security because he or she is a ex-felon for a crime he did in his 20s and released out of Prison while still in his 20s? A hypothetical situation but most felons STOP being felons in their 30s so NOT unheard of (yes, something like 80% of all prisoners return to prison, but that is a product of statistics, if a person is a felon in his late teens, typically burglary, he may go to prisons 3-4 times before he gets his act to together, thus just one person can have a 80% return to prison rate even through he stops committing felonies in his 30s).

committing crimes? Isn't that what the just society does? Punish and punish and punish until the offender finally dies? By all means lets keep aged felons away from any and all aid that might provide any security at all for them. Plus we really have to get the cable tv and the barka loungers out of prison. No wonder there is so much crime.

I think the point is that you either straighten up, get thrown in jail for a long time, end up dead so by the age of 30 or so one way or another you stop committing crime.

I really hope you were kidding. If I hear one more Republican equate cable TV with LIFE I will puke. I like TV more than most anyone I know but given my choice I think I would never watch TV again and still be able to walk outside when I want to.

It almost sounds like they are better off in jail, since jail is forced to provide healthcare etc. How f'd up is that?
