Republicans eating their own in Pennsylvania
http://www.pennlive.com/newsflash/pa/index.ssf?/base/news-33/1134484146170560.xml&storylist=penn

Jeff Habay, 39, a six-term Republican lawmaker from Allegheny County, will lose his state pension and could be removed from office by the state Legislature because of the felony conviction for conflict of interest.

...

After the verdict, Habay said the case was the result of a political witchhunt by U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum and former Allegheny County executive Jim Roddey, both Republicans.

...

Habay said he believes Santorum and Roddey were behind the investigation, but he did not elaborate.

Santorum's office did not return a phone message.

"The sooner Jeff Habay is out of the state Legislature, the better the state Legislature and the citizens of his district will be," Roddey said Tuesday.

-----

Habay intends to appeal. He also faces a second trial next year on 21 counts that allege he concocted a story about receiving a suspicious white powder in the mail and directed his staff to investigate his adversaries on state time.

Gotta love a little GOP drama in the morning.

Even by Republican standards.

4. How is it that the guy keeps running unopposed?
In the article it talks about how he has always won by such a huge margin, even when he had opposition. Do Pennsylvania people keep him around for comic relief?

8. Is this going to be "He's more corrupt than I am"? Could be fun
hopefully, lots of sequels.

5. Santorum is just trying to create a spot for himself because he knows he
is toast in the US Senate. He needs a job so it appears his next move will be State Senate...

6. I have to tell you, I'm shocked by this info.
Not because he's a Pub or that there's yet another corrupt politician, but when I lied in Pgh, he would have been my State Rep. He graduated from Fox Chapel HS 2 years before my youngest son, his brother is a Commissioner in O'Hara twp. where many, many of my friends live, he's a member of the Elks in Etna and my husband was a member there too.

I guess it sounds stupid and naive, but when one of the crooks is that close to home, it sends a shock wave up my spine!
