5. Disturbing trends.
1. "Democratic inaction." What's up with that? When did it become OUR job to help the Republicans out with Iraq war strategery?

2. Is there a movement afoot to do away with political cartoons in newspapers? This is the first I heard of it, and it disturbs me.

8. Ditto on #2.
Heck, one of the only reasons I get papers these days is to read my local political cartoons!

16. Read under the cartoon here...

http://editorialcartoonists.com/index.cfm

"Black Ink Monday, the online protest organized by the AAEC to bring attention to recent layoffs in the newspaper industry, has been a huge success.

"As of Tuesday, web site manager Anita Austin reported that the AAEC site had received 10 times the number of hits it had on a regular day, and that overall traffic was up 5-fold.

...
A note on the protest site stated: "'Black Ink Monday,' a nonviolent protest by the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, is a response to the Tribune Company's recent elimination of editorial cartooning positions at several of its newspapers, as well as a commentary on newspapers everywhere who have lost sight of the value of having a staff editorial cartoonist. Are you as mad as we are? If so, tell it to the Tribune Company's Gary Weitman, VP of Corporate Communications: gweitman@tribune.com."

E&P's Dave Astor spoke to Gary Weitman, VP of Corporate Communications for Tribune Company late on Monday about the protest. Weitman declined to tell E&P how many protest-related messages he received Monday.

He did say: "Decisions about editorial cartoonists and how those positions are filled get made by our individual newspapers, as do all decisions on staffing." So, said Weitman, questions should be addressed to the Los Angeles Times and The Sun of Baltimore -- two Tribune Co. papers that are shedding cartoon positions.

19. I can't really find out how many jobs were eliminated...
But all the cartoonists drew in support of those people who did lose their jobs.

I'm not sure how many papers the Tribune owns?

I too wonder about these cartoons about papers cutting their political cartoonists loose...
Anyone have a link on this?
