Fox News in Miami

last nite the Fox News Channel in Miami led off their 5 p.m. newscast with the leading story of the change of coaches for a pro sports team.

aaarrrggghhhh!

a wk. or so ago their top leading story was an alligator on the grass at the airport. they even paid a helicopter to hover over the alligator for 20 mins. until the gator was removed.

how they can read the NEWS with a straight face is beyond me.

6. "Fool-Aid" is more like it for Fox News
OTOH, to be fair, pretty much every local news station in the country sucks at approximately the same cubic feet/minute rate as Fox affiliates. Doesn't matter where you are, you'll always see:

1. Ten minutes of yellow-tape news
2. One minute of National/International news, unless there's a hostage standoff or car chase in Norfolk or Los Angeles or wherever
3. At least five minutes of shits and grins and big colored lines and arrows with the Weather Asshole
4. At least ten minutes of sports, starting with the pros and descending to high school football coverage
5. And the obligatory chuckles as signoff approaches

2. not surprised
here in Indy it's 24 hour coverage of Ron Artest wanting to be traded...on all the channels. Hell, you'd think it was a snowstorm or something...

3. The News is a joke, wherever you go. Even national news is a joke
Now that there are 24-hour networks.

4. WSVN. It's crap-tastic.
http://pedia.nodeworks.com/W/WS/WSV/WSVN

"WSVN signed on in 1957 as WCKT, owned by the Cox and Knight publishing families. It became WSVN sometime in the early 80s. It was originally South Florida's NBC affiliate. However, after NBC purchased WTVJ (on channel 4 back then; originally a CBS affiliate) and CBS purchased independent WCIX channel 6 (now WFOR-TV) in the late 1980s, WSVN was left without a major network affiliation. It eventually affiliated with Fox.

After it became a Fox affiliate, WSVN became a lot more aggressive with its news coverage, and is sometimes criticized for sensationalist reporting, using the philosophy "If it bleeds it leads". Nonetheless, it continues to attract decent ratings.

FOX News anchor Shepard Smith once worked for the station as well as CNN Headline News anchor Linda (Cinnamon) Stouffer, and current CNN and one-time MSNBC anchor Rick Sanchez."

7. They are SOOOO part of FAUX newsgroup
their reporters in the field are air brushed to perfection.

Their "anchors" for the most part are mini-celebs in the insular world of South Beach.

They have great traffic in the morning, but beyond that....ugh.

8. Is the Fox news there on an hour earlier than the older ones?

Here the Fox affiliate as well as the WB have their newscasts on at 9:00 instead of 10:00 when the CBS NBC and ABC affiliates have theirs. Most cases when they do this they realized they were not going to get a good enough share from the more established newscasts and chose to grab what they could an hour earlier and put a sitcom up against the regular news hour. With this usually comes a little more sensationalism and "offbeat" news to try to grab some viewers.

The Fox affiliate does run a 10:00 newscast as well now, but usually not watching it.

9. Here in South Florida...
...the FOX, UPN, and WB affiliates put their late-night local news on at 10:00 PM EST. CBS, ABC, and NBC come on at 11:00. I always thought it was because the three lesser networks didn't have enough programming to fill out all 3 hours of prime-time.
