Powerful Katrina slideshow shows the human devastation.

Here are some powerful pics showing the human toll that was paid in NO and the Gulf Coast. The slideshow is very well done by journalism school students and if you are moved by their work like I was they might like to hear from you at www.poynteronline.org .

The pics are from a variety of sources and show the effect of the storm as it was happening and the awesome damage after it moved on.

I guarantee you'll want to see every pic and you will be overwhelmed like I was when the slideshow ends.

4. That's a keeper. Thank you so much. I'm sending this to
everyone I know.

I have seen most of the pics but the compilation was powerful. The saddest art I have ever seen.

The little girl with the elderly woman in the wheelchair gets me every time. The look of singular responsibility on that little girl's face is absolutely inspiring.

Again, thank you.

9. Thank you so much for posting this.
I saw it in another thread, but it truly deserved its own thread. This is such a powerful presentation. Everyone should see it and remember.

Nominated.

10. This brings to mind a talk my friend had with her 6-year-old son...
Being a peacenik, and knowing that this bright child would find out one way or another that the US had begun an attack on Iraq, my friend told her 6-year-old son the day that the US had started the war in Iraq - that it had begun.

He looked sad and she asked him how he felt and he said, "Pretty bad."

She asked why and he said, "Because I love them" - at which point she responded, "But honey, you don't know them."

To which he responded with infinite 6-year-old wisdom, "But I don't have to know them to know I love them."

As we move on day to day to day post-Katrina and I know that our brothers and sisters have been abandoned, betrayed, malignantly neglected - my heart has broken, is breaking, will continue to break.

"I don't have to know them to know I love them."
