LTTE: "Mission accomplished" was about us, not Bush
http://www.fresnobee.com/opinion/lets_ed/story/11586040p-12318632c.html

I am so utterly disgusted at these people who think they have it all figured out.

I am an active duty chief petty officer, and I had the privilege to serve on the USS Abraham Lincoln as we deployed to the Persian Gulf from July 2002 to May 2003, the very cruise the president flew aboard on.

First, it was not the president who said "Mission Accomplished!" It was we, the crew of the Lincoln, who made and hung that banner that stated "Mission Accomplished," as our mission was accomplished and we were finally home. Also, we, the crew of the Lincoln, spelled out in ranks "Bring it on!" You want to throw some blame -- blame the men and women of the super-carrier Abraham Lincoln.

Oh, and by the way, it is about supporting our troops.

The patriotic men and women we speak of understand our role, and fully support our president and our country.

1. Anyone have a picture of that banner,
It looks a bit too professional to be done by the troops. Would they have that kind of equipment?

2. So what's he saying? The sailors aboard the Lincoln voted on it?
And decided that flying a big banner was the thing to do?

I was in the Navy. Nothing like that would ever happen on the ship unless the Captain, or somebody higher up the food chain, wanted it to happen.

CPO Vigil should be ashamed of himself. He knows he's lying.

3. I bet this "James Vigil" is a fake

It's been long proven that the "Mission Accomplished" was a White House Operation - not some lark by the Crew of the Lincoln.

5. I guess he missed the whole speech on the deck of the carrier...

I remember it; something about 'Major combat operations in Iraq are now over.", or something? It sounded a lot to me like it was a bit more about the whole war effort than just the Lincoln.

6. James Vigil, swiftboat wannabe
Everyone who can read knows the "Mission Accomplished" banner was a White House inspired prop. These wingnuts need to get a clue.
