CNN Headline News to be exact, I was just wondering what Real News story they were avoiding covering by covering it, but then, all of a sudden, the car started to smoke and it was over.

Anyone know what happened, did the Police use Road Spikes or something on the car or did they just blow the engine?

1. Car chases in LA are very commonplace...
And the local stations in LA will preempt ANYTHING to cover them. I'm pretty shocked they showed it live on CNN though.

3. Usually they only cover them when some Democrat is saying something...
...major, that hurts "the president."

Maybe they had a Press conference about the Diebold thing?

If nothing else, it showed how bad the Smog is today, when the car stopped, the Helicopter shot could hardly shoot through the smog, looks really bad today.

2. it is rediculous that it's big news. they all seem to end the same.
the driver finally gets caught -- and then he runs. what a joke.

6. This guy just got out of the car and lay face down...,
he knew the drill.

Usually it's a distraction story. Regular CNN is reporting this is the 1000th day at War in Iraq.

4. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I kinda miss those....
I moved away from LA almost two years ago, and could count on seeing at least one high-speed chase a week. My all-time favorite was a guy who stole a Landrover, which continued to go and go and go, even after going over spike strips. The guy wore down the wheels all the way to the axle, and just kept going; the Landrover was unstoppable.

It was reported a day or two later that the local Landrover dealership sold several of them the next day as a direct result of people seeing how tough it was during the car chase.

8. I once heard about a subscription cable channel
where they covered all car chases on any TV station anywhere in the world. No ads no breaks, just one chase after another 24-7. Don't know what they did when there was no chase going on.

9. I never heard of a cable channel, but what I heard was it was...
...a web site, and when their was a chase, they sent out a pager message to their members.

The Discovery Channel or TLC (The Learning Channel) I can't remember which it was, had a show a few years ago called "World's worst Drivers" that showed a lot of them. I think that was the show that showed them, it could have been another one.

11. This one was a mid 1990's Cadillac
Might have been White, it was some sort of light color.

Maybe I'll check the LA T.V. Stations websites for info.

Yep, KCLA has it, and the video on-line, looks like the car over heated ot the engine blew.

10. I saw one of those live once.
The runaway car and the posse passed the street I was on. What you don't see on the TV is the Apocalyse Now helicopter squad of police, Hwy patrol and every TV station in LA covering it. It was really bizarro.
