Is America on the path to civil war?
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 10:42 PM by Raydawg1234
Does this seem possible to anyone? Are our differences irreconcilable? The right describes liberals as their "enemy", even more so than the terrorists.

3. I agree. No matter how any of us feels, the ambient circumstances outweigh
it all.

That's why I keep saying "Enjoy life while you can."

There's no point IN being depressed.

4. You know many people think there is no current technology to
replace oil. But right now in Brazil, Cars are running on ETHANOL, which can be made from sugarcane and sugar beets. Right now they have cars with capabilities for both ethanol and gasoline and the same goes for the gas stations. Why we have not been making this transfer? I do not know.

5. No....
We are still way to comfortable:
Driving our kids to soccer practice in an SUV.
Getting a majority of our calories from fast food.
etc, etc, etc....

When the population is divided to 99% poor and 1% elite we will finally be ready. The in betweens must become poor first.

7. agreed
most people still think their life is pretty good.
only when most people think their life is so terrible that they want to actually hurt someone, will civil war erupt.

12. Right, I give it 80% hungry and cold, 19% not hungry, 1% well guarded.
The 1% will have to use mercenaries and keep some around them not too hungry.

27. I've been afraid of this for 25 years...
How often have we heard "pro-lifers"--who actually favor "life" the same way the Soviets use to favor "peace"--talk about the resemblance between abortion and slavery. But they never go on to state the obvious corollary--namely, that political agitation didn't end slavery, but a civil war that cost 600,ooo lives--the equivalent of 6,000,000 today. Are they prepared to fight one now? If not, quit yapping about slavery...
A bit of a tangent, sorry. But yes, this issue could explode into violence, and I am very afraid for the future of the Republic--not just over this issue, of course...

10. The civil war is already on.
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 11:01 PM by rocknation
But it's between the want-it-alls and everyone else, not the haves and have-nots, blue and red states, north and south, Christian and non-Christian, or liberal and conservative. Disenfranchisement of the masses is the Bush empire's prize, and their weapons are circumventing the law, eliminating checks and balances, co-opting the national media, squelching dissenters, busting unions, weakening social programs, lowering wages, and turning the military the only viable career field for the young.

11. No. People are too apathetic.
During the civil war you had pretty clear sides. The way the country is now there isn't any real dividing point geographically. It would be almost impossible to have an organized civil war. Besides that, everyone is too busy watching "Help! I married a transsexual celebrity dwarf on survivor island" to care.

21. The circumstances of geography were in line with the ideologies
in the 1850's allowing a convenient physical division for the two sides. No such physical boundaries now exist. There are reds and blues all over the U.S. with the exception of a few Western states. There is no feasible way to have a physical war between factions in the U.S. and geography isn't the only impediment.

24. you don't need clear geographical lines for civil war anymore
how many civil wars in africa are waging now where there were no clear dividing lines pre-war?

I don't think there will be another civil war, but if there is, it won't be North vs. South, it will be neighbor vs. neighbor, and far more bloodier. Imagine a situation where Limbaugh and savage are broadcasting over the radio where Liberals are.... :scared:

25. I have thought about the house to house scenario. That's just
too crazy. There would be no way to have any strategic goals that would accomplish anything. That will never happen. Even an Iraqi style insurgency is out of the question as no one in America has enough explosives to make bombs except the military and I would assume that they would all be on one side. The factions are just too integrated, in too close quarters. No way.

22. Here we go, AGAIN!!! May I ask: is that what you want?

I see this post at least twice a month now, maybe more. As much as the radical fucking right-wing would LUST for such division, the American people reject it and would likely respond (in other and more decent terminology, of course) that the RW can shove their barbarianism right up their ass!!

Yeah, I don't have to mince words much here. It's a cleansing thingy *LOL*.

28. Could be
With our election system in a shambles and all the major news media subserviant to the White House, it seems to me that our democracy is in grave danger, if indeed it can be said to exist. These people are evil IMO. Their greed knows no bounds, and they want take over the world.

When enough decent people in this country realize what is going on, something is bound to give.

32. Yes, an internal war/conflict is brewing....
but it will not manifest itself without an economic trigger point. As long as the economy is doing fairly well and we are not in a major recession / semi-depression, people will not fight.
