Georgia woman says teen groom wooed her
A 37-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant by her 15-year-old groom says she prefers older men, but the teenager aggressively wooed her.

Lisa Clark, who is charged with child molestation, statutory rape and enticing a child for indecent purposes, said in television interviews Monday that she still hopes to make a life with him and their baby. She said the morality of their relationship was open to debate, noting that in the past it was common for 13-year-old girls to be given in marriage.

"They're making a big deal out of a 15-year-old," she told WAGA-TV in Atlanta. "And I can assure you that he was no victim.

"It's not like they are making it out to be. Actually, I'd told him 'no' several times because I prefer someone older, but he was just so nice and so sweet," she said.

1. right and if the 37 year old was male he'd be in the county lock up
awaiting his hearing. That has got to be the weakest excuse i've heard in a long time, right up there with the Twinkie defense.

3. She apparently made it to the county lockup, too...
...at least for her booking on criminal charges.

4. This woman suffers from a severe case of bad judgement,
...at the least. And if the young man has any sense, he won't marry her.

But she should not be charged with a criminal offense, and I will say the same thing if the gender roles are reversed.

We need an age of consent that is in line with reality. Teenagers have sex. That they are children who cannot consent is a simplistic fiction.

I say make the age of consent 15. Shun, criticize, ridicule adults who have sex with teenagers if you wish, but don't throw them in jail. We don't need to criminalize everything.

Flame away. I'll be back later.

9. There are other, LEGAL reasons for not lowering the age of consent
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 05:49 AM by theHandpuppet
You're asking that a child not old to drive a car, sign legal documents, rent their own housing, have the benfit of at least a high school education, etc etc be allowed to enter into a relationship in which they may find themselves responsible for decisions which require not only maturity but legal age.

So what if the older partner (if there IS one) is willing to enter into marriage in order to legalize the relationship? Marriage in this country is much more than just two folks "being in love" and having the govt-approved right to snoggle one another. It is a contract that binds to people to legal responsibilities and decisions not only between themselves but perhaps children as well. If there is an older partner then that person will be in control of all the legal decisions, finances, etc. The child in this case would be virtually powerless in the eyes of the law.

Believe me, around these parts I see plenty of such "marriages", many of which end in divorce or abandonment soon after a child is born, creating yet another young, uneducated, poor mother and child who have little choice but to move back in with their parents or depend on the charity of equally immature friends.

A mature adult, and I stress the word "mature", can keep his or her pants zipped and keep their hands (and other parts of their anatomy) off a child.

12. Age isn't the issue here
The fact that she was in a position of authority makes this relationship different.
If it were just some woman he had met it would be an entirely different story.
This is a situation where she had control over parts of his life that mattered and was having an intimate relationship with him. It changes the whole scenario.

13. I hear ya.
Who can say experiencing a 37-y-o woman when I was 15 would have fucked me up worse than my last marriage did when I was 40?

Yeah, I'm suffering from a double-standard here. Perhaps if I had some insight into what it was like to be a 15-y-o girl instead of a boy I'd have a better grip on it.

But I do think the social workers are gonna fuck the kid up more trying to convince him that he's a "victim" and in need of their services for the next 10 years than screwing his "wife" ever could have done...

16. Who can argue with the great law of attraction for another.
Low self esteem had not a thing to do with in my opinion.

8. That Nice, Sweet Boy Has Some Problems
The boy, who had been on probation on an unrelated burglary charge, was ordered Monday to return to juvenile detention after relatives he was living with said they could not handle him.

10. blame the victim
whether he was willing or not, he was made vulnerable by his age, lack of experience and other factors.

11. Exactly so.
How many times have we heard that same "blame the victim" game used against women and girls. It doesn't wash with young boys, either.

15. Yup
The kid's life is, I won't say ruined but irrevocably altered before he was grown up enough to plan things out for himself.
