FEMA SCREWS Louisiana: RECENT photos from DEVESTATED AREAS
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 12:19 PM by jackstraw45
NOTHING has been done in many communities to clean up from Katrina. After January 15, local communities will have to pay for 15% of clean-up costs and after March 15, devestated communities will have to pay for 25% of clean-up costs.

From The Times Picayune:

http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tpupdates/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tpupdates/archives/2005_12_13.html#099609

"the Federal Emergency Management Agency has told local leaders that come Jan. 15, it will no longer pick up the entire cost of the effort.

Beginning on that date, cash-strapped local governments will have to pick up 10 percent of the garbage tab. Two months after that, parishes and municipalities will have to pay 25 percent of the cost, officials said theyve been told by FEMA.

We dont know where were going to go after Jan. 15, Plaquemines Parish President Benny Rousselle told members of the state Senate and House Joint Committee on Environment, which met in New Orleans City Hall. If were not reimbursed, were going to be subject to a great deal of expense.

The areas around New Orleans are a MESS - houses are still all over the place THESE PHOTOS ARE FROM DECEMBER 2005:

7. We paid...but insurance has since come through
we had flood insurance and it should cover our rebuilding. In that way, we've been very fortunate (compared to so many).

8. What happened to the donations that came in? Was the money
used for immediate needs and the rest pocketed or what?!

9. If this had happened in somewhere like Talahassee or Martha's Vineyard
it would have been cleaned up in a fucking week.

But since this is New Orleans, and New Orleans is filled with black people....well, good ole Georgie tells 'em to clean up their own mess.

I didn't think it was possible to hate this goverment any more. I guess I was wrong.
