US warned not to ignore China’s military advances

WASHINGTON - The United States must prepare an effective strategy to face China’s rising military power and not freeze at the Asian giant “like a deer in the proverbial headlights,” a new study warned on Wednesday.

Beijing’s rapid technological advances mean that the United States “must plan seriously” for its development of weapons of greater complexity and power, said the study by the Hudson Institute, a Washington-based conservative think tank.

The report, entitled “China’s New Great Leap Forward: High Technology and Military Power in the Next Half-Century,” warned that the US government is too preoccupied with its “war on terror” and democratization of the Middle East and Central Asia.

Meanwhile, Washington is ignoring China’s emergence as a top competitor to US technological leadership.

... fightin' terrorism hasn't been profitable enough for defense contractors. Gotta get that full-spectrum dominance front-loaded into the system to ensure future profits.

China's expenditures on defense have been consistently over-estimated by this bunch and other conservative defense think tanks, and even at their estimates, the Chinese are spending about a tenth of what we are.

If the intentions of these bozos were any more apparent, they'd be made of glass.

Big corporations don't like to kill their trading partners. And big corporations decide who we go to war with.

Worry. As Lenin put it, "When it comes time to hang the West, a Capitalist will sell me the rope."

The sell out is in the opening rounds of negotiations.

We owe the Chinese so much freaking money from financing our debt that if they demanded payment in full it would completely collapse our economy. In addition, the Chinese are getting FILTHY RICH from selling us crap and financing our debt.

There will be no war.

People think it is all about guns and bombs and drums, to paraphrase a very old anti-war song. But shooting is a rather small part of the whole spectrum.

More generally speaking, war is simply the deployment of power (economic, military, political, ideological, whatever) to achieve an objective in opposition to the objectives of an opponent. Combat is merely the shooting phase of such struggles. There may or may not be combat in this struggle, but China (not being denial about dwindling resources and the implications of global warming) has clearly stated its intention to expand its access to world resources and diminish ours.

It can be argued that this is both sane and just. We Americans consume too much, I think. The Chinese want to consume more, and that means there must be an adjustment. The exact form of that adjustment, and the means by which it will be achieved and enforced, remains to be seen.

Corporations will ally themselves with those entities they believe best serve their interests. Do not expect patriotism from moden board rooms.

And in turn financing their military buildup.

But Im not really worried, they already control us economically. They have no reason for a war with us.
