ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- A house built in 1858 sustained $500,000 damage in a fire Tuesday morning, that also destroyed toys set aside for needy children.
NBC 4 reported that Dagobert and Lissa Soergel belong to the {I}mmanuel Church on the Hill in Alexandria, which adopts families every year during the Christmas season and during the summer. The Soergels were housing toys for needy children in their home, and they've lost nearly everything. They said they are scrambling to arrange for donations to replace the toys.
The toys would have been the only Christmas gifts for approximately 700 needy children in Alexandria. An estimated $12,000 in toys and books bought with money donated by members of the church were destroyed.

Contact information is at the end of the article. As part of my war on Christmas, I'll be heading up there tomorrow with some toys and stuff that I found lying around the house. I am not a member of this church, or any church, for that matter.
