Help Sought In Replacing Gifts For Needy Children

POSTED: 12:14 am EST December 14, 2005
UPDATED: 12:33 am EST December 14, 2005

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- A house built in 1858 sustained $500,000 damage in a fire Tuesday morning, that also destroyed toys set aside for needy children.

NBC 4 reported that Dagobert and Lissa Soergel belong to the {I}mmanuel Church on the Hill in Alexandria, which adopts families every year during the Christmas season and during the summer. The Soergels were housing toys for needy children in their home, and they've lost nearly everything. They said they are scrambling to arrange for donations to replace the toys.

The toys would have been the only Christmas gifts for approximately 700 needy children in Alexandria. An estimated $12,000 in toys and books bought with money donated by members of the church were destroyed.
....

Contact information is at the end of the article. As part of my war on Christmas, I'll be heading up there tomorrow with some toys and stuff that I found lying around the house. I am not a member of this church, or any church, for that matter.

2. Well, I don't exactly
have a bunch of kids' toys lying around. It won't be much.

The house was built in 1858, so it was historic.

3. Now, that is the spirit of this 'holiday' season. You rock!
And yes I will call it holiday since so many different religions and faiths have celebrations this time of year. It's also a time for peace, although O'Liely hasn't figured that out yet.

Give what you can and who cares what others say about Christmas or Holidays or whatever.

:applause: to you for your generosity
