No; really. They know how much most Americans are resistant to change. That is why they figured it would be easier and yes, more profitable for them to do whatever it took to insure control of the oil-based economy until it runs out in-what-35 years or so. Sure; they had their own welfare in mind; but most smart businessmen know that you have to change or die--in this case change their companies from oil producers/dependencies to some other form of sustainable energy. Somewhere in their strange minds they just believe(d) that the rest of us needed to be coddled until the reality hits when all the oil is gone. What they do not believe in is the adaptability and resiliency of the American people. Who can blame them in our Wally-World need for consumption and our daily tv-driven laziness? The bottom line is; they don't believe in US. They don't think we are smart enough. They never have. Do you think they are right? I don't; but I can see why some would. Opinions?

1. I have to disagree
They are doing what's best for them and are trying to convince us it's for our own good. Anyone who would control things the way they have does NOT have our best interest at heart and they know exactly what they're doing. It's ALL about them and there are some truly EVIL people behind it. Time will tell and I'm convinced that we are all in for a shock when we find out how bad it really is and how long it's been going on.

2. Well;
Let me modify my statement by saying that this is how they justify it;and they truly believe it will keep us happy and pacified(read mallible and easy to control)They think it is really what we want (we are so lazy that we want to continue our lives as they are instead of having to make the change to more energy conserving lifestyles/cars/loss of plastics/etc.)Of course the primary benificiary is themselves; but they can't leave us entirely to the wolves right off or the source of income from said oil-driven economy they are trying to preserve is lost. Of course other nations will be provding some income; but many have their own ways to sustain themselves.

4. I guess I think there is a huge difference
between Neocon and republican. I do think the republicans feel the way you describe however, I think most neocons are almost evil personified and they don't give a rip about anyone except themselves. I think we'll be hearing more about them soon. (Noe, Rummy, Cheney - those types whose agendas serve some terrible "master")

3. I think you can be evil and believe what you are doing is
in everybody's best interest. But I'd also guess there are a few different types in the Bush cabal; some of whom are more cynical about it, and some of whom are true believers.

6. Yes I am talking about those few who are power hungry and
connected to others around the world. I think several in the upper levels are connected and into incredible agendas. I also feel that Fitz is getting an eyeful as he goes about his business. This is speculation on my part but I feel we'll see this play out eventually.

5. That old saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"
applies in this case

I just don't believe they ever had good intentions for anyone but themselves and we are all going to Hell

7. I think Hitler probably died
thinking he was a good man. That is the hard part about US and THEM kinds of debates. Both sides believe they are moral and right and that the other side is stupid, evil and wrong.

I personally see totalitarian glimmers on both sides of the aisle. The "nanny state" could turn into Big Brother without a big stretch, when things like child welfare gradually turn breeders' licenses. One man's repression is another's good intentions.

8. The problem is they are not so bright themselves.
They have delusions that they are the intellectual elite, but in fact all their plans FAIL.

10. Exactly.
Therein lies their downfall; and as movie-cliche as it is; their disbelief in the strength and integrity of human nature is part of it.
