First U.S. same-sex civil union headed for divorce in Vermont
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-lesb16.html

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- A lesbian couple who entered into the nation's first same-sex civil union are splitting up amid allegations of violent behavior.

Carolyn Conrad, 35, asked a court in October to end her relationship with Kathleen Peterson, 46.

Conrad also obtained a restraining order Wednesday against her partner, saying Peterson punched a hole in the wall during an argument and threatened to harm a friend.

''All I want to say is that the civil union was a big source of pride for me, and now it's not,'' Peterson said.

then heterosexual coupls but since only 78 of the 7,549 same-sex couples have divorced so far I'd say they're doing a hell of a lot better than straight couples.

3. The 78 were all dissolutions
This is the first actual divorce. Puts hetero couples to shame, I'd say.

6. I think it's the same thing.
That "dissolution" is the civil union equivalent of divorce, and that the main reason this is newsworthy is because it was the first CU to take place.

4. I guess hetero marriages
are proving to be a bad influence on G&L unions. I guess we need to defend the sanctity of G&L unions by banning hetero marriages.
