Kerry's Impeachment Crack Not Funny, Republicans Say

(CNSNews.com) - The Republican Party sees nothing funny about Sen. John F. Kerry's crack that President Bush should be impeached.

If Democrats take back the House in 2006, there would be a "solid case" to bring articles of impeachment against Bush for "misleading" the country about prewar intelligence, the National Journal's Hotline quoted Kerry as saying.

...

Kerry's communications director David Wade later said his boss was joking, but Republicans are not laughing.

"With his impeachment advocacy last night, John Kerry once again showed how out of touch he is with American people and how in step he is with the far left fringes of the Democrat party," said RNC Communications Director Brian Jones in a statement.

"For one of the leaders of the Democrat party to begin a push for presidential impeachment, in seriousness or jest, on the eve of the Iraq elections is both foolish and shortsighted."

1. Funny, sure seems like a lot of polls have been saying that We, the
People are more and more supportive of impeachment. Out of touch? No, just floating a trial balloon I think

2. Since the joke presupposes that the Demos take over the House
the relevant question should be, Does Senator Kerry's publicizing the remark help or hurt that objective.

9. Neither, IMO. It isn't the first time this point has been brought up.
In any discussion of impeachment, the inability to call up charges is directly related to our lack of a majority in the House. Oh, and kerry didn't publicize this remark. It is second hand reporting from a private party. I think the question should be, why two supposed Democrats attending a "thank you" party would be so quick to contact the media.

We need to get this done, and soon. I'm sure Kerry was (for a second) honestly expressing his opinion. Of course, then he backpedaled. Until the winds blow that way again. Or not. or...

The republican party needs to pay for this conspiracy to committ treason against the people.
It is a small conspiracy, and with fewer than 50 trials, the greatest threat to roman
civilization since the sacking of rome, will be put down.

71. The land deal that started the whole ball rolling against Clinton seems so
trivial compared EVERYTHING this admin does. To think congress spent millions of dollars to investigate a land deal the President did while he was a Governor that grew and grew, and ignores industry setting policy, messing with science to prove your point, and lying about the cost of legislation or the reasons for war seem far more worthy of official investigation.

If the Bush admin shows anything it shows that the Republican congresss is the most partisan in history, and more than willing to sell out their constituents to the admin and the wealthy elite.

in regard to the statement "With his impeachment advocacy last night, John Kerry once again showed how out of touch he is with American people and how in step he is with the far left fringes of the Democrat party," said RNC Communications Director Brian Jones in a statement."

http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/3528

<snip>By a margin of 50% to 44%, Americans want Congress to consider impeaching President Bush if he lied about the war in Iraq, according to a new poll commissioned by AfterDowningStreet.org, a grassroots coalition that supports a Congressional investigation of President Bush's decision to invade Iraq in 2003.</snip>

We already had a poll that is very much in support of John Kerry's call for impeachment. That was not a joke. The founders gave congress the power of impeachment for a president who is caught lying for money, killing people for greed...not sleeping with an intern. The republicans are a joke. Impeachment is the DUTY of congress under the constitution.

Let's have another poll if they'd like...

23. This is not a joking matter
I think Kerry's a little off here. If he believes Bush misled the country then why is he only "joking" about impeachment. This is a deadly serious matter, there is nothing funny about it. I didnt hear Kerry's speech. Maybe, his communications director only backpedaled off a "serious" statement. If so, it's also problematic, Kerry should stick to his guns.

58. I've never heard Kerry appologize for anything he did or said
The closest was to say that he was wrong to have trusted Bush and that knowing how deceitful they were he absolutely wouldn't vote as he did on the IWR.

He didn't appologize for saying they were the biggest group of crooks and liars. In the recent flap, he simply has put the comment about the US soldiers terrorizing kids into context, saying that everyone knew what he was saying and he had been talking about that problem for a while and that he was recommending the same thing as some people in the military.

Even last year, he said he was proud of his antiwar stand in the 70s. The closest he came was to say that at 60, he would perhaps have toned the language down - because he understands that it hurt some people he never meant to hurt.

66. Maybe It Would Help If He Didn't Send A Lacky Out To Call It A Joke.
It is not a joke. It is reality and he should stand by his words.

I am so sick of this shit from Dems. Say something and immediately back down when the pugs get pissed and start their bitching and whining. That seems to be the way we do it. What the hell are they so scared of?

It would be refreshing to see a dem stand up for what he says once and a while.

73. Fine. Impeach the Asschimp. But...

...for Kerry's cute comment to make it into the mainstream press (remember, he coyly winked and said, "I didn't say that") negates the whole idea, and more importantly, the idea that perhaps 1/3 of American voters would like to see Bunnypants back in Crawford on an extended vacation.

It gives the press, the Repubs, etc. the total ability to say, "John Kerry, loser of a presidential election to G.W. Bush. suggested today that perhaps he could be impeached..."

Yeah, that does our side a lot of good. The loser of 2004, making impeachment remarks to a small bunch of his last sycophants. Uh-huh, that will turn LOTS of heads our way.

No Democrat in serious contention for 2008 would be stupid enough to mouth a thought like that where it could possibly be quoted in the mainstream. Otherwise, Clark, Edwards, Warner, etc. would already be saying it.

Joe Average American Voter does not like talk of impeachment; it makes Joe Average American Voter extremely nervous to think about deposing the leader of America.

Yeah, yeah, flame me. I couldn't care less. I want the Republicans out of office, and Kerry being cutesy with impeachment talk ain't gonna get us votes. He had his chance, and it galls me that he speaks now, instead of speaking last November.

76. It certainly isn't, and it certainly is sad that bunkerboy has been
to remain in office - ESPECIALLY after his negligence after 911 and all his latest CRIMES, not the least is his ILLEGAL WAR OF CHOICE BASED ON LIES!

77. what a joke!
with a complicit media doing 24/7 on Clinton's glorious BJ it was impeach, impeach--but when Sauron, I mean Bush lies us into a war that some say he planned to do before he was even selected, derelict of duty on 9/11 and then to use 9/11 to bully in his policies--secret energy meetings, corrupt lobbying, outing Plame (the whole network), it's business as usual. Apparently, only in America is a BJ more important than continually screwing the American people.
