More evidence of GLOBAL WARMING: BBC: "2005 warmest on record in north"
Researchers say that the northern hemisphere is warming faster than the southern, probably because there is so much more land relative to ocean.

2005 warmest on record in north

By Richard Black
Environment Correspondent, BBC News website
Last Updated: Thursday, 15 December 2005, 16:06 GMT

This year has been the warmest on record in the Northern Hemisphere, say scientists in Britain.

It is the second warmest globally since the 1860s, when reliable records began, they add. {The warmest was in 1998, when the temps were increased by El Nino conditions.}

Ocean temperatures recorded in the Northern Hemisphere Atlantic Ocean have also been the hottest on record.

The researchers, from the UK Met Office and the University of East Anglia, say this is more evidence for the reality of human-induced global warming.

2. The BBC is a liberal shill
For environmental organizations that want to destroy businesses.

:sarcasm:

For real though, you know that's what Shrubco is going to say, especially considering the U.S. rep to the Montreal conference's behavior.

9. need one more vote for Greatest page and more visibility
This is solid evidence to use in arguments against those who claim global warming is a myth.

11. ***It's not just the rising sea level and hot and violent weather that can
be triggered by the higher temps. A more up-front worry, especially for the UK, could happen any year now - the weakening or stopping of major weather-ameliorating ocean currents. These ocean currents, like the Gulf Stream, tend to spread heat and cold around the world - they're responsible for the temperate climate of England, for example. They also help to make nutrients available for ocean creatures.

Some times in the earth's past, they've stopped - with severe consequences.

These important currents have been weakening recently. The higher the temps go, the more likely that they could stop.

14. We don't HAVE to have this corrupt empire owning and distributing
fossil fuels and ruining the world - there ARE workable alternatives. The Bush Administration avoids any encouragement or education about these clean, earth-friendly, blood money-free alternatives, but they DO exist, and they are our future. For example:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5619099
thread title (12/17 GD): Hydrogen misconceptions, once and for all, we need to know

Just because the Bushies want us all to use only their cronies' expensive, dirty, blood-bought fossil fuels doesn't mean we have no choice. And the climate studies show that the stakes involve not only corrupt empires but the livability of the temperate latitutdes of the planet. Bush and Cheney and the Saudis don't care. We must.

16. I am always kinda amazed of the fact.....
that these types of posts (global warming, etc) often get few responses on DU. I wonder why this is other that possible denial of the facts of this issue. This is scary stuff, we have no idea of the consequences of global warming. But hey, I feel pretty confidant that GWB is on the job to save us from this threat.
