to know that MY congressman is doing the wrong thing. Dave Weldon-idiot Republican. But I repeat myself.

ETA: That doesn't mean I won't register my preferences with his office -- just that I fully expect his typical "we must support the president in time of war" response.

32. Or just call toll-free: 1-800-426-8073
National Call-In Week Begins Monday, December 12.

The House and Senate will try to work out their differences and vote on a final bill before going home for the holidays, and they would like to leave December 20 or earlier. They need to hear from us a week before that!

It’s easy and only takes a minute:

Make three calls – one to your Representative and one to each of your Senators. Even if you’re not sure who your Representative or Senators are, the people at the Capitol switchboard can figure it out for you and connect you.

After you are connected with a staff person at the office of your Representative or Senator, tell them:

“My name is _______________ and I live in (your town/city). I would like
Representative/Senator to vote NO on the final version of H.R.4241/S.1932. This bill
will cut billions in vital services to vulnerable people, including Medicaid, SSI, foster care,
Food Stamps, and child support. These cuts are the wrong priorities. I also would like the
Representative/Senator to announce to his constituents that he/she opposes this bill.”

37. Is the Pombo rider still in the reconciliation bill? See my sig line
for explanation. It was in the House version but not the Senate version of the budget bill.

If it is still there in the reconciliation bill, it's the end of our national public lands. They will be sold off for practically nothing to be ravaged or developed as the buyer (perhaps a foreign corporation) wishes, and there would be no royalties or taxes paid on oil or minerals removed from it or requirements for care.

Pombo is a corrupt Rep from CA, one of the ones in the Cunningham corruption ring.

House plan to sell public land fails

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Republicans have dropped a provision in budget legislation that would have allowed the sale of public lands for mining.

Western senators had criticized the provision, which would have overturned an 11-year-old congressional ban that prevents mineral companies from "patenting," or buying, public land at cheap prices if the land contains mineral deposits.

Nevada Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., author of the mining legislation, revised the provision Monday in an attempt to gain some Western support. The new version dropped language that would have allowed the direct sale of some lands that no longer contained minerals.

On Tuesday, Gibbons said it was clear that even the revised provision would not make it through the Senate, where some senators had threatened to use parliamentary maneuvers to block it.

75. That is such a huge relief!!! Thank you!!! We should use what they tried
to do in campaigns to show them for what they are. The majority of people in this country have no idea how close they came to succeeding with this terrible scheme. Let's use it in campaigning. Pombo introduced it at th last minute into the the House version of the bill, naturally without public hearings. It PASSED the House - the House Rethugs voted for it. Let's hold them accountable for this treachery.

And then, of course, there are the OTHER terrible things about the budget bill...

76. They are apparently not giving up...
The provision’s sponsors, Reps. Richard Pombo, R-Calif., and JimGibbons, R-Nev., withdrew the measure late Tuesday. The AssociatedPress quoted a Pombo spokesman saying the representative would work onthe bill again next year.

77. yes, I noticed that. We will have to watch them constantly. The stakes
are so high, these corrupt and treacherous Reps will keep trying to cash in on OUR public lands and everything else they can get their filthy, greedy hands on until they are indicted or expelled from office.

This whole plan of theirs needs to be publicized and used as part of a campaign to show what they really are to the voters who have no idea of their corruption. Pombo is on Cunningham's list and has a history of extreme anti-environmentalism, opposing protections for wildlife and everything else that might interfere with massive profits for his "clients."

Yes, they will try again. They almost got away with it THIS time. I don't know how much of a difference the weeks of pushing here at DU to get the word out to Reps and especially Senators made, but I did get a PM from one DUer who said that his Rep claimed to have no idea that the Pombo rider had been inserted into the House bill and seemed to be upset about it. Part of their strategy - as with the Patriot Act - is to stuff these things into unrelated huge pieces of legislation or delay availability of the texts of huge bills so that they cannot be fully read. There was outright secrecy surrounding the insertion of the Pombo rider into the House budget bill at the last minute.
