New York transit workers strike two private bus lines, very limited 4 now.
"Tonight the executive board voted to begin a series of strikes first out on some of the private bus lines and then extending onto MTA ( Metropolitan Transportation Authority) properties," Transport workers Union chief Roger Toussaint told reporters from union headquarters

"We are prepared to continue negotiations with the MTA but the MTA cannot continue to negotiate through threats."

The union has long had tense relations with MTA management and workers are angry that the MTA is citing financial hardship at a time when it has reported a $1 billion surplus.

With subway trains and most buses still running on Friday, millions of New Yorkers went to work under a cold rain, the possibility of a mass walkout on their minds.

Collective Bargaining, the heart of a democracy and the right of every worker. Thank the Democratic party, plenty of good men died fighting for the struggle over the Republicans and their corporate overlords, lest we forget.
