I've been staying out of this one, but is good to find someone out there doing what I would do if I gave it the time. I sent the link to LOTS of people.

The whole thing was quotable, but my fave line was:

"I thought conservatives were supposed to be all proud and independent? When did they turn into a bunch of fucking crybabies?"

This is so true. I've lived in the Bible Belt for 8 freaking years now and it still freaks me out that fundies claim to have such a solid, unshakeable faith, but A) they see every dissenting opinion as a mortal threat to their supposedly rock-solid religion (and react accordingly), and B) they demand CONSTANT reinforcement from everybody around them; anybody who doesn't join the choir becomes an enemy, and if the government doesn't start singing they start howling about being oppressed. They are like babies who want to be indulged at every moment. That they are allowed to pray and say Merry Christmas is not enough; they want the general public to give them a venue and an audience and when they don't get it they start bawling. The writer asks How can an 80% majority be oppressed, but it's not the 80% that is making the claim, it's the fringe of fundies and thumpers who see anything sort of a fundie theocracy as an unacceptable society.

though a little to much fucking for my tastes. Still. I sent it on to my mom - who is a big O'Really fan. Merry Fucking Christmas, huh?

The points were extremely well taken, however...the "fucks" distracted from the rest of the very fine message, IMHO.

I'm no prude, either. I can talk smack with the best of them, but one definitely does not want to distract from one's otherwise-very-well-stated rant.
