dems have got to "support the troops"...
i know dems really DO support the troops more than the repub warmongers, but they're letting these repubs own the message.

almost everytime a repub opens their mouth, the phrase "support the troops" blurts out.

i wish dems would say the same thing "support the troops" everytime as well, since WE really mean it.

dems make great speeches against the war, but they should keep repeating "support the troops" over and over again to stop this iraq debate from being framed as "do you support the troops or are you against the war?"

how much more can you support the troops than to get them out of that iraqmire and bring them back home, safe and sound to their loved ones?

sad to say, "support the troops" bumpersticker soundbites go over better than logical speeches with the american public. repubs know this.

dems need to own "support the troops" and rightfully so.

1. Support the troops means more than words
and list the failures of the current administration to support the troops - such as adequate equipment, back door drafts etc.

3. Suppport our troops -- bring them HOME NOW!
That would be the best way to support them.

A story from today in our local paper. This one had me choked up this morning -- the guy was coming home. Families have to really steel themselves when they have a loved one in harms way. I can only imagine that they would have let their gaurd down with the news of a firm date that he was coming home. I feel so sorry for them.

Morgan grad killed in Iraq attack
By KATHY THOMPSON
Staff Writer

MALTA - With only hours left before coming home to his wife and family and a month before his next birthday, Staff Sgt. Curtis Anthony Mitchell of Malta was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, on Monday.

Tony, 28, as he was known to his friends and family, was on his second tour in Iraq with his unit, the 3rd Squadron, 7th U.S. Calvary, Company C and loving every minute of it.

"He loved the Army and being with the guys," said his younger brother, Spc. Jimmy Mitchell, who was with the same unit. Jimmy returned from Iraq Thursday morning to help escort his brother home for the last time.
The Mitchell family is currently in Georgia at Ft. Stewart with Tony's widow, Frankie, and her family. Final funeral arrangements have not yet been made, Jimmy said.

4. I was in the NAVY...
during the first Gulf War...and I have had repukes tell me...that because I disagree with this war going on now that I'm a traitor...

They don't support the troops...if they did they would want to see them come home also...instead they toe the party line and call us Democrats/Liberals "troop haters"...

It's all just talking points...it's the only thing they are good at...

7. They do - did you read the veteran day speeches
Bush and Cheney spent the time criticising the Democrats - Kerry and other Democrats gave speeches honoring Veterans. Most Democrats have gone to funerals, Bush and Cheney haven't.

Didn't you hear the rhetoric in 2004 - one think that irritated the Republicans is that Kerry was a real war hero - which is why they disputed it. (I expected they would hit his protesting, but his service was not questionable.) It was attacked because they didn't want Democrats to claim they support the truth.

9. It's best to support the troops
by supporting legislation that supports them like veteran's benefits and armor, etc. Then say, "look at my record, I support the troops".

10. would you tell a friend, sibling, child, or neighbor
that they HAD to stay in a obviously deadly abusive marriage, because, all those beatings they'd lived through would have been for nothing, that the spouse was relying on them to 'redeem' them, and that to leave would make them 'appear' weak, or cowardly?

And have the balls to couch that stand as being SUPPORTIVE? of them?

How about making sure those who return in boxes, and peices are cared for adequately? And those who are there, are not being used like tampons-

I'm so sick of the notion that people are so expendable- that not naming and FACING them - distancing ourselves from the truly ugly reality of war- and a war of CHOICE at that, is so soul-lessly and hollow-ly 'supported' by those who refuse to face reality.
