Foxy Brown Says She's Been Deaf for Months

Foxy Brown says she hasn't heard another person's voice in six months and will have surgery early next year to restore her hearing.

The 26-year-old rapper was diagnosed with sudden hearing loss in May while she was recording her upcoming album...Brown's former lawyer...disclosed her hearing loss last week. He had been asked why they had exchanged notes while waiting in Manhattan Criminal Court for her case to be called on an unresolved 2004 assault charge. The two parted ways just days later.

...Brown's medical consultant...refused to give any details on what the surgery would involve, the exact date it would take place, or how long the recovery would be.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, has refused...plea deals that would have let her avoid any jail time for allegedly assaulting two nail salon workers on Aug. 29, 2004, in a fight over payment for a manicure...

Been dipping in the oxycontin, Foxy? Did you inform your record label that you couldn't complete the album? I'd assume you were the victim of either carelessness around amplifiers or a cruel twist of fate, but I fell into that same trap with Rush Limabaugh!

1. Why throw Foxy under the bus, when your real target is Rush?

3. Yes scientists have proven that
anybody suffering sudden hearing lost is a partisan republican hack we should all detest.

4. Rush lost his hearing because he was junkie, not a hack
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 02:24 PM by rocknation
and despite my detesting him, I actually felt sorry for him until it came out that he'd brought it on himself through drug use. Let's just say that I'm once bitten, twice shy.

5. People can have sudden hearing loss
for a variety of medical reasons. It's a little unfair to blame her w/o knowing anything more about it (IMO).

7. I lost my hearing
And you could put an Oxycontin in front of me and I wouldn't know it from a Tylenol. Luckily I only lost hearing in one ear, but I'd feel bad for anybody who lost their hearing, no matter how it happened.

8. I doubt that you spent five months keeping it a secret

and pretending you could still do your work. Maybe Foxy spent it trying to get herself clean. Maybe.

9. Or maybe not

Sudden severe sensorineural hearing loss is most often caused by a virus. (I tried to find a link between the sudden deafness & Oxycontin and failed. Have you researched this?) Foxy Brown isn't just losing some hearing, she is now totally deaf. This could be the end of her career as a rapper - many companies won't sign her for fear she'd be unable to perform, etc. That seems to me a much better reason for her to be quiet than spinning some secret Oxycontin addiction.

"Three days later Brown was diagnosed with severe sudden sensorineural hearing loss, a little-understood condition that affects one in 10,000 people without warning, often the result of a viral infection. Most suffer loss in only one ear and, when treated early, the condition can be reversible. But Brown has lost her hearing in both ears and has, so far, not responded well to treatment. "Her case is severe," says Dr. Anil Lalwani, an otologist whom Brown has consulted. "In only 1 or 2 percent of the cases are both ears affected." For months Brown tried to hide the loss, hoping medication and surgery might restore it."

10. I rarely mention it
Mine is just one ear, so I make sure and position myself where I can hear people. I don't know what I would have done if it was both ears, but if I could have done my work and not said anything about it, that's what I would have done. I'm just a private sort of person.
