Gambling only half a sin, according to Trent Lott
Heard this on NPR a little while ago in a story concerning tax credits given to Gulf Coast businesses. It seems casinos didn't get these credits. According to some representatives, they didn't think it was appropriate to give credits to sinful businesses, including massage parlors, sun tanning salons (can't figure that one out), liquor stores, or casinos. Okay, you can argue that any way you like. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me, but I'm flexible.

The point of my post -- Trent Lott was quoted as saying that casino gambling was only half a sin, presumably because he supported tax credits for casinos, using the argument, again presumably, that they have a trickle down effect on hotels, tourism, and other businesses that serve/depend on the casino traffic. Knowing the hypocrisy over the average republican, I can't help but wonder about the ties between Lott and the casino industry -- contributions, stock holdings, etc. You just know it has to be there. Anyone interested in having a look-see around the internets to check this one out?

2. Is there a half-hell?
Someone should ask Lott?

These businesses pay taxes, and in some cases moreso than other "non-sinful" businesses (and I hate to use that term). I guess their tax money isn't as good as tax money from somewhere else. They should be getting tax money from some of these big businesses that masquerade as a church and make illegal corporate contributions.
