Not One Veto
That just goes to show that Bush gets everything he wants and the Republican majority in Congress is just a rubberstamp for him. That's a talking point that needs to be put out there during the 2006 campaign.

1. Yeah... I thought he might veto the McCain torture thing.
But instead, the Big Tough Cowboy caved like a New Orleans levee and then he got on TV and talked about how he'd "compromised". He hadn't compromised--McCain beat him.

2. McCain won little....

The "agreement" was for a guaranteed legal defense-- a built-in get-out-of-jail-free card for the CIA and it's secret prison interrogators. The old wink and nod.

4. The 'deal' is simply smoke and mirrors
There was no compromise, they simply changed the field manual to allow the 'techniques' that the McCain bill is based on ergo they will carry on as before.

6. Well... you guys sure brightened my outlook!
I might have known it was all a fix.

But, well, okay, at least it had the appearance that Big Tough Cowboy caved? I mean, even CNN reported it that way...

And the whole thing had the effect of portraying the * administration as PRO-TORTURE for weeks on end.

5. How many filibusters have the dems used since smirky was sworn in?
I know there were a couple on the extremist of his extreme judicial nominees, but what else? Didn't we control the senate for a year?

7. Well, but (assuming smarmy voice) "9/11 changed everything"
9/11 turned out to be Shrub's trump card. (Wow, what a fortuitous turn of events for him.) Before 9/11, he started his first administration under a cloud, and moving slowly. Then, luckily for him, the WTC and Pentagon were hit, and thousands of people were slaughtered.
