What do Atheists believe in during the current affront to humanity?
Me? That we need to make the best for ourselves and those to follow.

Pretty damned simple, I guess. Kind of a golden rule squared.

1. Same here.
I don't believe in any gods, but I do believe in humanity and decency. I believe in making the world better in the here and now, and for the benefit of our descendents.

2. As do I.
the problem for most people is that they really don't give a shit about anyone but themselves and possibly their immediate family (and sometimes not even that). They are so self-centered that they are pretty much useless in the "improving conditions for all" category.

3. This "a-theist"...
makes a dinstinction between a Theist, which is what a Fundie is, that is, theirs is THE god; and a Deist, which was what our Founding Fathers were ..............SOME sorta god, or Higher Power, or just The Universe. Personally, I believe GOD doesn't do anything, we're it. He/She/It already gave us the brains to live rationally and compassionately, now, let's do it!!!!

4. Yes.
I'm not an atheist; I don't really know what I am. No follower of any organized belief, anyway.

That golden rule is universal. I think the world would be a better place if we could all find some universals to agree on, and to move forward on those.

5. But, but, that's IMPOSSIBLE!
Without accepting the words of (insert diety name here) into your heart and soul, it is logically impossible to do good deeds or establish a solid, moral legacy that can last through the years. Morality flows soley through belief in (insert diety name here).

6. Makes sense.
I'm responsible for the decisions I make. If I make a bad choice and hurt someone or something, I have no devil to blame it on and no god to forgive me. Keeps it all in perspective for me.

7. Humanity itself.
Not belonging to the club (and I'm agnostic, not atheist, but understand it).

9. "The world is my church, to do good is my religion."
Forget who said it, maybe Ben Franklin? As a hardcore "strong" Atheist, I live my life in such a way that I would not be ashamed to have anything I do or say on the front page above the fold. Embarrassed sometimes, but not ashamed. :)

12. Belief. It's what one believes.
Not all belief is tied to "dieties"

13. If by "believe in", you mean to trust in the advisability of something...
...then I would have to say that today I believe in not believing any authority figure.

14. Leave the world a little better than you found it
Life may not be fair, it's our job to make it fair.

If someone needs help and you can give it, help them. It may mean sending some money to help victims of Katrina, it may be as simple as helping to get your neighbor's car unstuck from the snow pile at the end of the driveway, it may be as grand as setting up a foundation to donate hair to children going through chemotherapy.

Every nice thing someone does for someone else makes this world a little better than when we found it, and helps balance out the unfairness.

Could I scare you any worse?
