I've just canceled my NY times subscription
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 12:06 PM by nradisic
After I don't know how many years of reading the NY Times daily, I've canceled my subscription as of today. I lamost did it after the Judith Miller BS, when it was obvious that she was just a mouth-piece for the neo-cons in trumpeting the war. The last straw for me was the fact that the NY Times knew for over a year that the president had ordered the NSA to spy on Americans in direct violation of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. "High Crimes..." for get about the misdeameanors. The NY Times is no longer the paper it was. The whole media neees to be re-regulated (That would be my first order of businees, right after Impeachment) - as soon as the Democrats take over the House in 2006.

The GOP always puts party unity (at any cost) over country. I'm no longer subsribing to a newspaper that aids the GOP in maintaining its stranglehold on the US Democracy. Folks...the second American Revolution is at hand. Time to stand up and fight.

1. judith was my last straw
although I applaud them publishing it today, waiting for a year is unforgivable.

I quit my subscription several months ago, while she was still on staff. Have not regretted it one bit.

good decision. did you call them and tell them why?

3. Yup!
I called them, told them why and I e-mailed the executive editor and told him why too.

10. Thanks for the correction...

English happens to be my third language. When you get to the point where you can speak, read and write Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Arabic, Serbo-Croatian and English almost perfectly, like I can...

You're constructive criticism on my spelling,is well taken.

12. Sorry, but both are correct...
... "canceled" is primarily an Americanization, while "cancelled" is proper in England and in places where British English is the second language.

Cheers.

13. Ok, it's just my word processor throws an error when I ...
.... use the two l's - I'm a teacher(math), and I try to get it right when I can. I only meant it constructively. I keep an open mind, admit my own mistakes, and that's why I'm not at freerepublic.com.

Yes, this, cheers.

5. I understand , but you will replace it with what?
NYT appears to be a rather complex organism. Multiple agendas... often in conflict... being promoted simultaneously.

I'll continue to read... but with a jeweler's eye for thinly disguised RW propaganda ( good example of that was the editorial against Chavez this week). Too much good stuff in the paper. Both commentary and reportorial ( good example, several deliciously incisive critiques of aforementioned Chavez editorial appearing in LTTE column yesterday).

6. it is time to fight
isn't it? But how? More emails? Carry a sign down the sidewalk? Call my list of friends who already are outraged? Telephone my representatives? Again? They've never listened to me before, or those who agree with me, so what can change now?

Sure our congress creatures talk a bit of outrage but they are supposed to be the counter weight to the president and have done little or nothing at all to suspend this creature that inhabits our highest office.

I take up a gun, fight till death to save America. But from whom? Our own Resident? I'd end up renditioned and thats the fuck of it. * will rendition anyone who he see's as a terrorist and that could be me, an american citizen by birth who has served twice in the military, who now has to be concerned that the resident monkey will scoop my ass of the sidewalk and send me to Syria for tea and crumpets.

Goddamn it, I'm pissed. I'm mad as I've ever been politically, but just don't have a clue what to do about it.

Glum. Thats my mood.

8. Well, in a way, it was good that they did not release
the info until now. After all, that was one reason the Patriot Act was defeated.

14. "cutting your nose..." etc.
Print newspapers are in a downward spirals as fewer and fewer read them. And a liberal one like the NYT especially.

The dumbing down of America continues as more and more want sound bites and easy to digest "news" - if at all. Gossip and dittoheading is what too many want.

Canceling the NYT will just add to this trend. Five or 10 years from now, please do not come to these pages - if will still exist - to lament about the lack of good reporting that does not cheer the group that wants WWJD to replace the Constituting.

Be glad that the NYT did do the research, did publish it and, frankly, their timing was perfect as it killed (for now) the renewal of the Scoundrel Act.
