the WH spin machine must be getting desperate...
...or else WTF were they thinking? Bush's advisors let him cop to felony search without a warrant on live radio and TV. Did they think the NYT article would be so damaging that the only hope was putting dubya on to reassure people that he was only tryin' to protec' them from terra? Problem is, no statement that he makes changes the material facts in the matter-- it's as though the WH thinks that the ONLY court that matters is the court of public perception, that they can break any law with impunity if they just convince the base that it's for their own good. Question is, where was Harriet Meirs when Bush was preparing to incriminate himself on national media? Where was his legal counsel? Is anybody really in charge anymore?

1. He clearly seems to believe
that he's bound by no law. He doesn't NEED legal counsel.

2. He has never faced consequences for his actions before
How COULD he think there are any rules?

Bad parenting taken to the most extreme case.

4. That is my theory - He is getting so bold with his power that
he no longer cares if we know he has broken the law.
This is dangerous if true as now he will begin to think that all decisions are above any power in the land and anyone who challenges him will be taken down.
Just another parallel to fascism.

5. Please remember
what KIND of legal advice he is getting. His personal lawyer is Harriet Miers, he relies on Gonzeles........do these folks care about anything but the appearance of legality???

I don't think so.

About sums it up, that is what they think because they can slap gag orders on who they want to shut up and enforce it behind national security.

9. they're trying to "get in front of it" - to "define" it

its not so much that he's still lying to the dwindling few who are continually fooled, its that it would be that much worse to refuse to comment on it

they want to gain control of the "spin"

and they might be successful if everyone else caves because bush mentions 9*11

but I don't think that's the way this will go, this time

10. I hope you're right. I do believe that if he keeps beating up the press,
he WILL pay the price for THAT! The Press has been getting "off Shrub's bandwagon" recently, and any politician knows, or should know, that you never want the Press to be against you!
