Saddam's Fate Foretold in the Qu'ran
This is something to think about! Since America is typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages... The following verse is from the Quran, (the Islamic Bible)

Quran (9:11) -- For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

Note the verse number!!!!!

The fact is, this isn't true, far from it! Translations may vary slightly, but essentially the section that most closely matches "chapter 9, verse 11" (009.011) says:

"But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know."

Sadly, this falsehood has been spread across the information superhighway with relatively few people questioning its veracity. My own sister, who works for Customs, sent this to me and asked me to verify it, however, in the next sentence she said, "I hope it's true." Surprisingly she said this despite our frequent conversations about the lies of this misadministration, including the lies about the invasion of Iraq!

I think it's because, as a nation, we've become so sure of our superiority (cultural, economic, military), we are desperate to find justification for our unexcusable actions or beliefs. In other words, we believe our own hype. National pride, of the most perverse kind, precludes some of us from wanting to admit that we can, and have been, totally in the wrong.

3. Yeah, I got one of these. Fortunately, I keep a Qur'an next to my Bible.
I also found an online searchable Qur'an, and googled "eagle." Ain't no eagles in the Qur'an.

There is a verse in the Bible, however. Judges 9:11 says "And the dumb-ass bush will fail to stop a plane from hitting the World Trade Center even though he had a memo on his desk warning him of the plan and all he had to do was order airlines to step up security and watch out for box cutters, which al-Quieda had used to hijack a plane in Turkey previously." Oh yeah, it says "thou" somewhere, but I forgot. I sort of paraphrased.

4. from The Noble Quran,
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 03:31 PM by Aidoneus
Surah 9, verse 11, from 3 different interpretations of the original Arabic:--

YUSUFALI: But (even so), if they repent, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity,- they are your brethren in Faith: (thus) do We explain the Signs in detail, for those who understand.
PICKTHAL: But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion. We detail Our revelations for a people who have knowledge.
SHAKIR: But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know.

people will believe anything...

6. people will believe anything...
Particularly when that "anything" is a justification, no matter how twisted, of their superiority complex.

7. LOL "When you see black flags coming from Khurasan go to them.."

From the Musnad of Ibn Hanbal: Thawban reported that the Messenger of Allah said: "When you see black flags coming from Khurasan go to them for Allah's caliph the Mahdi will be among them.."

Y'all have fun, now.

I'm sure it will end up in my e-mail from my wing-nut cousin who thinks Saddam is the anti-Christ GODBLESSMERICA, etc.

I'll bookmark this thread for future reference. :-)

12. I remember somewhere the Qur'an...
uses an analogy, "There is no sound more annoying than the braying of an ass." Tom DeLay foretold?

17. I think you're referring to this:
Do not talk in a shrieking voice:

Waoghdud min sawtika inna ankara al-aswati lasawtu alhameeri (31/19)

"Keep your voice low, for the harshest of sounds,
without doubt, is the braying of an ass.
"

13. Thanks for helping debunk that one
Funny, the real verse seems to be good advise for any Arab living in the ME right now.

"But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith"

So the ones that don't repent and don't pray and rip off the poor are not their brethren in faith. Sounds like W and Sharon would fall into this catagory.

15. Its pretty sad that people believe anything they see in an email
But they do. People never check sources or facts.

Its funny, because not only does this justify everything Bush has done, but it also links Saddam directly to 9/11.

18. If they want to send out AUTHENTIC scriptural verses about eagles
maybe they should try this one from the Book of Obadiah, Verse 4 (King James version):

"Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD."

21. This image, by the way
is the reverse (tails) of the Eisenhower (1971-78) and Anthony (1979-81, 1999) dollars, which I believe was designed by Frank Gasparro based on a shoulder patch worn by Apollo astronauts. At any rate, this coin is what immediately came to mind when I read about "exalting oneself as an eagle" and "setting a nest among the stars".
