Some true conspiracy theorists (the ones who check under their beds before sleeping) still feel that Harriet Miers was a set-up job; that he deliberately embarrassed that poor lady in order to sneak in Alito - his first and only choice.
Alito supports certain religions, to the exclusion of others. He honestly believed that Abortion was wrong, and promised to destroy Roe. He believed and argued for a strong executive power. All in all, his nomination is a disaster in the making for Constitutional rights and freedoms we hold so dear.
The incredible (better late than never) spinal transplant took hold in the US Senate. By refusing to submit to the neocon changes forced by the US House, a very bad bill was denied passage this weekend. That result even shocked some of those who feared the problems contained with the bill. Now, we face domestic spying, done on the whim of the most autocratic president in our history. Alito would probably support his power to do so.
What does that mean for the future? Will these stories and events impact his nomination? I hope so.
